It was good till it lasted, the revered Metroid Prime franchise has come to a close and 'another Metroid' has surfaced. Say goodbie to the amazing Retro Studios and say hello to... Team Ninja...

Are they serious? Team Ninja working on Metroid...? The guys who, in 13 years of activity only worked on rehashes of two games: the fighting game Dead or Alive (including its softcore porn spinoff Xtreme Volleyball) and five million versions of Ninja Gaiden, all best known for their punishing hair-pulling difficulty. This new Metroid did look like Ninja Gaiden in many ways, although it appears to blend platforming a la Metal Slug with third person action.

It may be good, it may be not. I sure didn't see the new developer as good choice. They don't fit the role.

And give me ONE worthwhile game Retro Studios worked on before Nintendo gave them a chance with Prime. Any takers? ...Anyone?!? The fact is that while Team Ninja may not be the developer everyone (or anyone, for that matter) thought about when talking about Metroid, Nintendo obviously had enough faith in them to hand over the reigns of one its better franchises. And seeing as how Team Ninja is good with 'rehashes' of games, as you called them, particually in the action genre, it was a solid choice when coming up with this game. Heck, I'm looking forward to how Team Ninja handles developing a Wii game as much as I am the game itself being Metroid. I think it's about time the system also was put into the hands of a [third-party] development team that has a track record of being serious with getting the most out what it's working with, and with Nintendo backing them up, I believe the end result could be superb.

I think it's cool that you have an opinion on the matter (as we all do), but I hope you don't dismiss the game as easily as I fear you are. It's not as if Nintendo doesn't have a history of doing what we saw today and doing it successfully, afterall. If nothing else, have confidence that Nintendo is doing what it thinks is best for the series right now.

If there's anything bad about it it's Team Ninja's fault.

I can't wait for this game, and it looks awesome, but I have my doubts.

I don't really see how this looks like Ninja Gaiden. In the trailer, part of the gameplay is in 2D, the rest in 3D. Most is in third person, But some is in first person. Hell, the HUD in first person is almost identical to the Prime HUD.

I'm accually really looking forward to this new Metroid game. It's a good step to the old roots of Metroid while keeping the worked in the recent released. From the trailer, I saw footage that seemed to be a side scroller, a first person shooter and an action RPG. I think it's great heights for the entire series. Plus, we're finally going to get that sweet story behind Samus and all that. It's also been discussed that it could also achieve a mature rating which I'm very surprised by. Nintendo even said that they were reaching out to the mature audiences and if any Nintendo game should get a M-rating, it would be Metroid. Although, I'm hoping Red Ninja didn't push the difficultly level that was in the Ninja Gaiden games

Dude, its Team Ninja.

Team Ninja = incredibly huge breasts and amazing breast physics.

Metroid = Samus Aran, a girl.

A girl = boobs.

Team Ninja + Metroid = Win.

What did you learn in that school of yours?

I was shocked when I saw it and I just completely agree with you, I cannot believe of all companies to touch one of my fav since back in the day its Team Ninja...that was a slap in the face....a real harsh blow...I think it will still be good but its just a damn change from the Metroid I knew and love. If it turns out to be a flop I can asure you I will write that letter I sometime goes on about in forums the one where I chuck a brick from my house to Nint. HQ with a letter attached saying "where the **** did it all go wrong Nintendo?." Seriously Nintendo has actually made me feel like everyone should drop dead that way they won't try to please everyone....of all the suprises Nint. could have given that was one of the worst it was more a bloody shock.

Sigh, no one is ever satisfied

I love the Prime series but I'm really excited to see Metroid take a different direction. At least wait for some more info before immediately pouncing on a new idea.

No actually to me it wasn't, Prime was the first time Metroid was made in 3D back then and when Prime came out I just thought I won't bother but I'll try it one day and I did and it was brilliant. And before you say can't you do the same to this, Retro Studios I could accept, Team Ninja I am fully aware of what they make and its a hell of a lot harder to except them touch a franchise I like. I still don't fully know how to react and I have watched the other M trailer about 40 times now...I know I should be happy seeing one of my fav franchises like that but I just Don't feel it, its still just a shock and until I actually get to play it for myself I don't think I will be able to accept it and if its not as good as the Prime series I'm gonna have to avoid all console Metroid titles from now on...which will hurt. If Nint. wanted to give me a suprise they could have amde a Starfox, other M was just a shock.

Come to think of it, the last Starfox was made by Namco (which represents an important firm in the gaming market) and it wasn't on par with the prequels. Nintendo has a talent for discovering unknown yet talented studios like Retro, but is less lucky when cooperating with famous studios.

Yeh Starfox Assault...it was a poor game to say the least...Nintendo doesn't have much luck with other famous companies I don't know why but something always seems to go eventually wrong when they do. There was the split between Nitendo and Rare as well and that was painful to say the least, now both Rare and Nint. seemed to have gone down in quality ever since. Actually Rare was supposed to have 2 or 3 new games this E3 but they haven't been seen yet, I gotta find out when they are on.

How would that be overreacting? If it isn't good then I will have to avoid the series from then on...what would you suggest if its bad I constantly waste money on every sequel they make to a poor game? but as I said I don't know what its like yet.

The fact that Team Ninja is masterful and totally know how to make an action game aside, you're acting as if Metroid was definitely handled to Team Ninja for the rest of the Universe history, while it's just a partnership for this one game, so you're obviously not thinking clearly.

They're attempting a unique approach with this one game... Can you blame them? I like new approaches from time to time. They're making the next Zelda through a new approach, Super Mario Galaxy was a new approach, and hell that got GOTY or something. Nintendo will not let Team Ninja mess up their franchise... I think Team Ninja will do great.

I think what Wintry is saying is that you're already counting out this game and EVERY future Metroid title just because you're not fond of who is handling the game at the moment. I really don't get. You said it yourself that you wasn't in love with the original Metroid Prime, but eventually came around to it, so this could very well be the same thing. What's even more confusing is the fact that you were willing to accept Retro Studios, an unknown developer when Prime was announced, but for some reason, have no confidence that an established developer like Team Ninja can even pull off a quality Metroid experience.

I can understand you not be as excited about the game as you would hope. That happens with all of us at some point in time. Still, the way you're going about all of this isn't exactly what I would call a calm approach.

You do know that Nintendo's R&D is working with Team Ninja, right?

Or do you think Nintendo would give one of its biggest franchises to a third-party and let them do whatever they wanted with it.

Sorry I could have put it better but I couldn't be bothered to type.

If the game turns out alright then of course I'm gonna take my statement back, but I don't know if its gonna be good yet do I? nor does anyone else, I just have to wait to find out.

Its not that I hate team ninja its just...I never expected them to touch Metroid once in my life. I know Metroid won't be in their hands forever but I'm just saying if this one turns out to be a flop I won't buy any other made in the the same way and I will have to stick to the 2D series until they make a new one that is actually good...which will take years to make and by then I could be dead which would be annoying, lol.

But again as I said I need to play it to judge it, but seeing it like that still comes as a shock rather then a definite nice suprise IMO.

to me is the end of a betrayal ,that prime was.To me they violated too many foundations of the beloved franchise and while it was a good game, it lost a lot of what made Metroid famous since its conceptions.Nintendo noticed and noticed also their lack of significant improvements on 3 games in a row, and did the right thing.Gave it to a more worldwide renowed Team and work with itl.

Understood. It's not hard to see that some people may have been shocked by this partnership, and while some people (like myself) may have found this awesome, others may have seen it the other way. If it makes you feel better, if this game ends up a "flop," I don't think you have to worry about seeing another game. :P Nintendo probably would stand for it even less than any fan ever could. However, that's why I'm optimistic that this game will do well. Well... that and the fact that when Team Ninja focuses on a big game (DOAX series aside), the results tend to be high-quality stuff anyways. Once again, there's nothing wrong with having some concerns. Maybe a closer look at the game will give people a better idea of what to expect.

Dude, its Team Ninja. Team Ninja = incredibly huge breasts and amazing breast physics. Metroid = Samus Aran, a girl.A girl = boobs. Team Ninja + Metroid = Win. What did you learn in that school of yours?

freek666

I seriously hope Nintendo keeps a tight leash on Team Ninja with things like this. From the looks of it so far,Samus' chest appears to be normal size, hopefully meaning that the rest of the game doesn't follow the Team Ninja tradition.

Sigh, no one is ever satisfied

I love the Prime series but I'm really excited to see Metroid take a different direction. At least wait for some more info before immediately pouncing on a new idea.

Erebyssial

you're right. no one is ever satisfied. so it doesn't matter, because they could announce anything and people would moan.

if retro made another prime, the complainers would say... "ughhh... not another prime! why don't they do something NEW!?"

whatever.

I think this is one of the best moves they could have done. A story heavy, new direction Metroid title. Samus talks too. And guess what, its part 2D/3D with both first/third person perspectives - its a dream come true for me. Finally, they're taking one of their better franchises more seriously now, insteading of having us wait another long, long time for a true Metroid title. You can be sad and 'boo hoo' all you want - for me, I cannot wait - Also, Nintendo is working with Team Ninja - like they did with Retro - to make sure the game will be good. They won't let Team Ninja turn the title into crap.

Samus had smaller breasts in that trailer than she did in SSBB...

Well maybe Samus is younger in Other M than she is in SSBB, making her.....less developed.

they'll be cut-scenes where you catch glimpses of samus undressing, and wearing a zero suit swimsuit-thong. ;p

but... i agree with you. her sex-appeal will be distracting. i am hoping they can incorporate her femininity into the gameplay though..

but then i'm thinking, samus is essentially gender-less in the power suit, so it shouldn't be a focus. but.. looks lke we'll see something different with this game.

Metroid Prime isn't the end-all, be-all of the Metroid series. In fact, it's only a side-story trilogy. It looks like Metroid is getting back to it's roots with third person action and all the acrobatics like speed boosting, etc. In all sense and purposes, this game looks more like the spiritual successor to the core Metroid series than the Primes ever did.

Well I'm sure 10% of Team Ninja work force are currently hard at working and studying the Metoid time-line, Samus' bacl story and space-time theories to determine the correct oversized breasts Samus should have in the game.

I don't know what he learned at his school or what you learned, but in my school, I learned that a Metroid =/= Samus Aran. Metroid = life sucking bio-organism usually found on planet zebes but has been seen on many other planets that Samus has visited.

HQ with a letter attached saying "where the **** did it all go wrong Nintendo?." Seriously Nintendo has actually made me feel like everyone should drop dead that way they won't try to please everyone....of all the suprises Nint. could have given that was one of the worst it was more a bloody shock.

have you noticed that you're more or less the only one complaining about a NEW metroid?

but it's not just metroid. you complain about nintendo all the time in your other posts/threads. for some reason you can't even get past ocarina of time. get over it. it's a 9-year-old game that's been constantly improved on since. it's not even that revolutionary today. you should just move on.

and you talk about metroid as if it's your daughter or your lover that some other guy 'touched', and now...she's been irrevocably corrupted. what are you talking about? you're always complaining, but you have no solid reasoning to back it up.

i don't think you're a true metroid fan anyway, otherwise you'd make a more sensible argument and talk a little bit about why you actually like the series.

it's not that it isn't your right to complain, but you don't seem to have reason to. i know metroid has always been about intense action, and i'm confident they hired the best people for the job. don't always eat up what hacks say about metroid's only claim to fame being the so-called "lonliness". please. i find games like tomb raider and ico lonlier. play some old-school metroid.

Well from the trailer, we know it's definitely not going in the DoA direction, and Ninty will never let them go in the punishing difficulty direction, so if those were the things you were worried about, worry no more! :D

A girl = boobs.freek666

There's a wee bit more to us than that, thanks.

some girls may have other things going for them, but you can't deny that girls have boobs. that's one argument you probably can't win. ;p

I have no problem with Team Ninja making the next Metroid. They have made very memorable games such as Ninja Gaiden 2 (360) and the Dead or Alive series. They got enough street credit for a Metroid title for sure.
