well if i was there during wii development then these would be my changes:
1) add dedicated physics chip to the wii. it would be cheaper than getting a more powerful CPU and allow for more details physics without bogging down the rest of the system.
2) more internal memory and the ability to run apps from external storage formats
3) improved online with keyboard and voice support for all games as standard (obhiously the keyboard is only for chattign mind, controlling the game with it wouldnt be allowed). also have an ethernet port as standard too.
4) put all VC games into there own sub directories on the channel screen. so u click on an N64 icon and ure N64 games are listed for example. at the mo its too cluttered imho.
if i was developing a wii2
1) HD graphics of course, and horse power thats half way between a PS3 and a PS4. costs must be kept at a certain level so its sold at launch for 250-300 with a game in the box.
2) greatly improved disc technology designed to get data off the disc like lightening. since no movies will be playable, the drive doesent need to conform to any standards so the thinkign behind the drive will be efficent management of fragmented data. basically a next big evolution of the GC drive.
3) built in 7200RPM HDD as standard. will use standard laptop HDDs so an upgrade would be simple.
4) improved motion sensors on the wiimote and nunchuck. the nunchuck will also have a couple of more buttons and the wiimote will have a scroll wheel added. new wireless technology also developed so that theres absolute minimum lag between the wii and the controller. improved IR camera tech also to improve accuracy.
5) OS will remain mostly the same from a GUI standpoint. however users can customise it in terms of colours and even add pictures to the background if they want to.
6) more sophisticated account management. adult and child accounts will be available so that parents can limit what there children can do as they see fit. each acount will be tied to a mii. accoutns can also be password protected of course.
7) 802.11n and gigabit ethernet as standard. games will also have voice coms and keyboard comms support as standard. friend codes will be supported (mainly to ensure that BC is supported) but for wii 2, itll be strictly 1 wii, 1 number. numbers wont need to be added for every new game, instead the wii will see what games ure friends are playing. new numbers can also be added if u meet someone u get along with online, though this can be prohibited by parents if they see fit of course.
i think thats it anyway.

Why would you need that? Do you or any of your friends have an ISP dishing out more than 100mb speeds? Unless it was going to be used as a media center, gig speeds are overkill. 100mb connection is still more than enough for media centers.
Nothing, it sells out everywhere so you cannot do better.
Anyone who WOULD change anything would be fired immediately and I would clap like a seal when it happened.
User who would change things: Yeah so I have some great ideas for the Wii
Nintendo: But it sells out everywhere
User who wants to change things: I know but if we do a few more things to it....
Nintendo: They are sold out everywhere
User who wants to change things: Yeah but I'm sure if I can change some things...
Nintendo: You'll what? Sell more then everything?
User who wants to change things: Yeah I think it could be better....
Nintendo: Clear out your desk, security will be along shortly to escort you out of the building
Bottom line, if you'd want to change anything on the Wii I'm so glad you have no power over anything because you just showed your poor choices in business.

well a gigabit ethernet port is as cheap as muck to add. my mobo has 2 and its not exactly high end. 100Mb will still work with it so why not? the difference in cost would be negligable.
and 802.11n should be standard by the time wii 2 is out (and hopefully cheap too). g is not the greatest for games at the mo, especially games needing high bandwidth and a solid connection. n should improve on that.

Realistily you could always reccomend making more of them faster :P

O c'mon now.....I think that is a litle much. You can always make SOMETHING better.
There are some good suggestions in here. Not all...but some. I agree with the idea that you don't need to reinvent the wheel.....but I say if YOU know anything about business (or lots of things in life) you should know that you cannot stand still.
I think it's very important to keep improving. And as a Wii owner I hope Nintendo feels the same way.
(I like my Wii but something can always be better)

Hardware sales are not everything so this sold out everywhere idea falls short.
Making the system better will prompt more and better third party support. Pushing devs more so they dont make terrible Wiimakes has nothing to do with selling out everywhere. Because Nintendo has pushed this casual image devs think the audiences on Wii are unaware of nuances that would be considered unacceptable on other consoles. Nintendo is at the top and were close to having the ideal console as it was in the NES days where first and third party support were both very prominant. Right now first party support is amazing, if Nintendo were to push more features and add more functionality then devs would put more into it as well. Look at the new Worms coming out. Big online game traditionally but they took out the online because voice chatting is kinda essential.

oh my...1. Graphics/ Processing Power
2. Full backwards compatibility with GameCube, INCLUDING a Broad Band Adapter game support
3. GCN-style wireless controller
4. Better online model
5. Promote better / original / exclusive games, cut back on cheap ports and movie-based games
1) Enough Hard Drive space to fit a N64 game in every slot on the menu screen.
2) Better graphics, so we won't keep losing games out to M$ and Sony. That way when something goes multi-plat, it actually is multi-plat.
3) I'd bring back the Nintendo Seal of Quality, to replace the Nintendo Seal. I mean at least they could put it on the consol itself, if not the games. Because we all hate shovelware, and if thats what casuals like, well then i say screw em.
4) Better motion controls, i dont know how they work exactly but they could be more accurate....but hey, now that i think of it, if they were perfectly acccurate we might all suck at wii games, so maybe its a good thing???
5) Release 5 VC games a week, with one good one each week, and by good ones i mean stuff like Zelda, mario, DK, RPG's such as FF, all kinds of stuff, that people actually know about and will buy.
6) Better online, god knows we all hate friend codes, i dont even think parents really care about FC, or online gaming, as most kids aren't that into online gaming anyways, imo. I dont care about voice chat and typing and stuff because i haven't done a lot of online gaming, but if others like it then i suppose it'd be a good idea to impliment that as well.
7) Wii Ware remakes of games instead of paying tons of money for DS and GBA remakes of games that dont really offer anything different, yes FF4 i am talking to you!.........Like what Microsoft was gonna do with Goldeneye, thats what we need with wii ware, and its what we should have had from the VC in the first place. Does anyone really care if a game gets "tweaked" a little bit? i know i dont. better graphics dont matter but at least fix the controls of some games!
it would also be cool to have a more customizable home screen as well, i mean i dont like having to take 3 hours re arranging VC games and various channels that i dont even want but cant get rid of. yes i am speaking of the stupid News and Weather channels. The news one is particularily useless. and dont even lie trying to say its not because it just is.parksits
all it takes is a Vc channel that can reorganize the VC games by different orders. Its so simple and there is no reason not to do it but all the reason to DO it.
perhaps memory, also, i'd tell 3rd parties to get their act together.Haziqonfire
Yea the 3rd pary developers need to do better.
1. +30 GB of built in storage(we DON'T need more than that)
2. 2 GB of RAM, that WILL attract most if not all developers for the PC, games like Crysis would be run without problems obviously with some tweaks.
3. A Dual Core CPU @ 3.2Ghz
4. Something like NVidias Geforce 8600 GTS
5. The Wii mote is near perfect, my only complaint is FPS don't feel "natural" and that's due to the lag in the IR camera I bet that can be improved on.
6. Ethernet port, multicard(regular/micro/mini SD and Compact flash) reader, 2 more USB and HDMI port(which means we'll have the highest HD output) in the back.
7. Better online interfaces(it's a problem with the games and not the Wii) without Friend codes(which is a problem with the wii and we'll be using usernames) and voice chat communication as standard on all online games and an unified friend list. I would like to include online match making on Metroid Prime 3.
8. Dedicated servers if possible
9. Customizable menu or at least make it so that all virtual console games are shown in a single channel and all organized in categories.
10. More connectivity with the DS.
Optional:
11. Blu-ray drive, if they only knew it was gonna be the format winner... because nintedo DID think of adding it but took it out because they don't like being cought in the middle of format wars and they ddin't know it was gonna win anyways, they couldn't take their chances.
12. Connectivity with USB devices, like ipods, external hardrives, flash memory, etc.
All this and i think it's to make lemmings and cows shut up, not because I really "need" them.
Hmm, if i worked for Nintendo i would just make the online gaming more friendly and add the chat function to all the online games in order to have better communication between players. I think all the other functions of the Wii are good.
But to tell you the truth i would like to see HD graphics on this system.Defector22
