If it was put on the DS then it will have a lot of stripped features. It will be SSBB lite. Many people would be disappointed that their favourite character/stage didn't make it inside and there would be less modes. Only advantages i could see from SSBDS is improved online and a portable SSB but that's really it. Get SSBB/SSBM if you want smash bros.
I guess many of the people who want Super Smash Bros. to be in the DS want it because Super Smash Bros. BRAWL greatly failed to live up to their expectations. That, combined with the fact that it's way too unlikely to get another Super Smash Bros. for Wii (other than Melee via GC disc, or Smash 64 via Virtual Console).

That pretty much sums it up, I think. It's easy to ask for a DS version of Super Smash Bros. because we're talking about Super Smash Bros. here. That doesn't mean that the game would fit on the system, though. I will say that after seeing what was done with Brawl's Wii-remote only setup that it could turn out better than I thought it ever could be. Still, some things are better off left alone, and I think it's the case for SSB in this instance.

That's an easy one, it'll be popular portable title that almost everyone would want for their DS. The public can get bias, video games aren't always gotten because for collection sake, but for popularity... But that's a whole other matter. In the end it wouldn't matter how great it is, but who's all playing it multi wise.
i think it could work. look at jump ultimate stars. that has wonderful graphics and gameplay, tons of characters, and quite a few stages. right now, its the equivilant of ssb. i think ssbds could be done though
I don't really want ssb on ds, but if it were to happen i dont want to see the same people.Instead of seeing a repeat of marth they should put on of the gba fire emblem guys in. If they do stuff like what i just said it would be very different instead of ending up like a mini ssbb.
Jump Superstars shows that they can make a decent handheld fighting game for the ds. i think its the closest thing that there is right now to a ssbds. mmaxdragon

Uh i dont know where all these 'Stripped down' ideas are coming from. The Orginal super smash brothers on the n64, was on a 16mb cartridge. the ds currently supports up to 256mbs. 256/16 = 16. So thats 16 times the space of the orginal game, and your telling me they have to strip it down?
If they can do Jump Ultimate Stars with non-laggy online, then they sure as hell can make SSBDS; and it would be awsome. Give it a story mode and online, thats all people would want (and expect) from a portable version. I'll play Brawl if I miss something
Oh, I mean if you hate awsomeness then I guess you wouldn't want to see Smash Bros on the DS.
But when you think about it, the DSi could actually handle it- it wouldn't have to be stripped down all that much. It has much more storage space- especially with an SD card. The only area I see being a potential problem would be frame-rate issues. It's a pretty fast-paced and frantic game for such a little system. I just like the idea of being able to brawl on the go, personally.
It wouldn't work with the DS's control setup, not to mention it won't be as multplayer friendly because to play with friends they would need their own DS and possibly the game itself. One reason why the console SSB works so well is becuase all you need is the system, the game and four controllers to have fun with friends.

If you think the DS version is supposed to be as good as a console version, your expectations are way too high. A portable version would be a chance to try something new. It'd be especially nice if they went the JUS route and made it anime-y, that way they could easily fit 35 characters (nothing compared to JUS's 75 character roster), and make the online workable. It seems anyone who's against a portable SSB has never played JUS...it could easily be done and would turn out amazing
uh..let's see....uhmm..WHY?? u ask??. well let's see , they definitely DON't need to make a separate ssbds but it would seem nice to have a enhanced 64 version seriously dude who DOESN't want to play SSB on DS. exactly ..maybe u!
