Honestly, did the touch screen make the DS a better console?

It absolutely did. There have been so many things done with it that no other system can do.

Defintely, and the thing is it's still far from reaching it's potential. The dual screen idea though has not been quite as innovative but still has had a few uses over a unit that would simply have a bigger screen.

Of course it does. It's what made it unique and different.

A few crappy games make the touch screen seam like just a gimmick, but games like zelda phantom hourglass show that it's awesome

It makes it more interesting than the GBA and stuff and different otherwise it would be just a GBA with better graphics.

yeah there are times when the touch screen is great, and yet other times the touch controls are horrific, or not even used at all.

The touch screen and ruggedness of the game cartridges is what made me choose the DS over a PSP in the first place. After having it for almost a year, I couldn't even concieve trying to play a game without the touch screen. Having to move an analog stick for every move I make in a game sounds crazy to me now. ( This is no way a put down of the PSP, just my own personal thoughts :) )

I'd say yes. Without touch-screen, the DS really doesn't offer anything that couldn't be done better on a PSP with better graphics and more storage on it's UMD media. However, touchscreen offers not only a simple and fast interface, but a method of producing gaming experiences that can't be replicated by any other handhold or home console. Trauma Center and Elite Beat Agents are a couple of games that wouldn't nearly be as fun without touchscreen.

I think it did but on some games example sims castaways and phantom hourglass ,sometimes I would rather use the controls to run instead of tapping the stylus all the time sims castaways was annoying but it wasn't as bad on phantom hourglass.

ruin factory harvest moon some of the touch screen features made the game alot more enjoyable, and less tiring. I think games would be nicer if we could decide which we wanted to use It would probley be a headache for programmers though.
