Hey, I'm getting a Wii and I wanted to make sure I had everything down that I would need to fully enjoy it.

-The Wii itself
-Wii Controller x2
-Nunchuck x2
-SD memory card. I had a question about that, can I just buy any old SD card and use that, or do I have to use the Wii's SD card?

Is there anything I'm missing that is basically an essential for the Wii?

Thanks.

Haha yeah, I was planning on getting a couple games with it too.

Would a SD card like this work perfectly well with the system?

Also, I'm planning on getting RE4 and Metroid Prime with it, so do I need a GC controller?

You only need the Wii Points card to download Virtual Console games, right? Nothing else?

You'll need (recommended by Koop)

  • Wii Console
  • Wii-mote (optional amount)
  • Games I recommend Zelda, Excite Truck
  • An RGB Scart for improved picture quality

You don't really need an SD card if your not intending in downloading VC games as the Wii's memory is quite vast. Also a GC controller and memory card for saving playing GC games, and finally a weapon (of your choice) to bash the trollers round the head (example above) Happy Gaming !!

I have not found a good use for my SD card yet. I may swap it with the one in my Camera soon, just so it gets some use.

OK, so I don't really need the SD card unless I'm planning on buying Virtual Console games? I can keep my game saves on the 512MB of flash memory in the Wii itself?

Last thing on memory: do I need a GC memory card in order to save GC games or can I save them on the internal flash storage?

Also, you're saying that the cables that come with the Wii don't support 480p?

So I should buy component cables like these if I want 480p on my HDTV, right?

Yeah don't bother with an SD card yet, You DO however need a GC memory card to save GC game data it won't save on the Wii memory unfortunately. The cables do support 480p but the component cables you linked above^^ will just give an improved picture quality compared to the standard scart you get with the Wii, not an essential but I'm fussy and bought the component cables anyway :D

I'd say hold the SD card, I'm yet to find any use for it. You can only backup to it anyway. If you want to play GC games you MUST have a GC controller and a GC mem-card. I also strooongly recommend a classic controller. SNES games aint that good with a GC one, and its wireless and slick and everything... kinda cheap to.

Yes, you do need a gc memory card to store you're gc game data. The games I recomend is Zelda TP, Elebits, Wario Ware and Excite Truck and mabye SSX Blur when it comes out.
