The classic controller, you can use it in all the VC games and if you have an already old GC controller maybe have some problems like the control stick doesnt work well. (use it too much during some years have some effects:shock: )
You're going to get most people saying Gamecube Controler because that's what they're used to from Melee. Most people havn't even tried the Classic Controler, or don't even have it to begin with. I started out with the Classic Classic controler and therefore I'm more used to it, and I prefer it over the Gamecube Controler. If I were you, having no experience with either, I would pick up the Classic Controler because it is compatibe with some Wii games and all Virtual Console games. It's like the offspring of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. But, the Gamecube controler has the rumble feature and is more comfortable, but I'm not saying the Classic Controller is uncomfortabe.

Every Wii game that offers compatibility with the Classic Controller offers compatibility with the Gamecube controller too. The Gamecube controller is also compatible with all Virtual Console games. Plus, obviously, you need a Gamecube controller to play Gamecube games. You can't do that with the Classic Controller.
The way I see it, the Classic Controller IS a better controller, but the Gamecube controller is a better investment if you can't buy both.
I tried using the wii remote and nunchuk, but it did not feel right, but I use the gc controller because thats what feels best, and also I was a big melee fan.
