The first thing I bought was Mario 64

you need a Sold Seperately thumb strap for that game though.

These days, if you have wifi, I'd have to say Pokemon D or P. New mario bros and Sonic rush are fun too.

ff3 should last awhile. same with pokemon

if u have friends with ds's then mario kart or tetris...dam fun multiplayer 

I would say pokemon, it is soo good :)But if you're looking for something different, go with Eliet Beat Agents. The music may be some what crap, but it's a really good rhythum game.

To answer your question: no, you do not need to be a Poke-fanatic in order to injoy this game. I have never played a Pokemon game in my life before I got the DS version, and I absolutely hate the TV show, but I love this game. It's a fun rpg-like game with lots of free roaming and wild pokemon to catch and train.

Oh, and Elite Beat Agents is probably your best bet for a touch screen game. The whole game uses the touch screen, you never use a,b,x,y, etc. at all.

If you want it to last a bit get Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon. Metroid Prime:Hunters and New Super Mario Bros. are great starter games as well.

I really liked Kirby's Canvas Curse, one of the best uses of the stylus yet. 

id say that elf bowling pretty mutch owns every game out there for the DS.

But seriously i would buy MKDS or AW DS
