As an owner of a DSD (DS Dark, its easier to say) and a DSL (just got it today) I like them both. The DS is smaller, brighter, and looks awesome (Onyx. Looks AWESOME!!!). The normal DS is like a tank, and has the thumb strap. The normal DS looks dull compared to the Lite, but the GBA games arent hanging out. On the flip side, the Lite is brighter, but, the GBA games hang out, which is annoying.

Yeah, the Onyx DS Lite is awesome, but it really comes down to what ya got, some have the old DS, and are happy with it, some have the DS Lite and are happy with that

I wouldn't say a DS lite is the same as the DS phat. Personally I didn't like my DS phat for a couple reasons.

1. still wasn't bright enough to enjoy games as much
2. the balancing of the system was horrible and made my hand cramp

That said the DS lite addressed both of those issues and is therefor far ahead of the old DS. I hardly played my DS for said reason, then I got the DS lite and it's by far my most played system.
