I've been hearing some conflicting words (and reading some conflicting posts) regarding whether the DSi will retain its GBA slot or not. On the one hand, it seems more marquis games (such as Guitar Hero, and notably Pokemon) use the GBA slot on the DS's now, which would be the argument against removing it. But on the other, removing it would significantly free up a lot of space and allow them to make it much, much thinner. And having opened one up before, I also don't see how they couldn't make room for a very robust camera system in all the extra space between the outside DS lite shell and the actual circuit board. So, does the DSi retain its GBA slot? On a (somewhat) related note, will the DSi support 802.11g (or even draft-n) ? It would be a rather pointless upgrade if the Wi-Fi is still limited to WEP for security IMO (though not nearly as pointless as the new 80GB core ps3).

WEP is what the current DS has now. I'm asking whether it supports WPA (at least) or even WPA2 for wireless security.

Nice writeup, but it doesn't answer whether the DSi supports any newer Wifi security protocols.

...hrm, pokemon and guitar hero would become redundant, butr hay I got 2 ds's (a phat from japan which is graphite black, and a lite black) so prehaps I would update once more...

Though it would mean the dsi would stay at home more, I play gba games AND ds games when I'm out and about, I swap between the 2, clocks games faster alternating :)

If there's no GBA slot i probably won't get it, half of the games I play on DS are GBA games.

The DSi does not have a GBA slot and it isn't small enough to warrant that decision if you ask me. The dang thing is WIDERthan the current DS Lite now. Fact.

Yeah? So the DSi is wider and thinner?

Looking at the spec at the Nintendo website www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2008/nintendo_introduces_dsi_9691.html it's certainly not enough to make me upgrade. It has lost the GBA slot. Is that a problem though as the DS games are generally superior to the GBA games? Don't get me wrong, GBA had some great games and I still have one of my GBAs (yes I had three - one for work, one for home and one for the handbag) but the graphics etc on the DS are superior. The DSi though does seem to be trying to evolve into something else - a cross between a gamestation and an iPod/MP3 player or something?

Perhaps one day our iPod, mobile phone, gamestation, laptop and camera will all be integrated into one single unit. Only question is, how big/small will it be and how often will we be tempted to upgrade? Think of the backup and restore every time you change your PC? What do you think?

GBA slot is gone in DSi.

Some guess we may buy GBA games for DSi in online stop to play. But I doubt. It's because the device which is to run GBA games is removed. I don't think it can run straight from the DSi itself.

Even if we can run GBA games in DSi, we have to buy the same game twice simply to run on DSi. It's no so nice for us, Nintendo.

As far as I know, it seems DSi still supports what DS Lite supports. In other words, there is no enhacement in Wi-Fi security.

Not only that, you lose some gameplay because some DS games interacts with the GBA games.

Yes it is wider and thinner at the same time. The width of the DSi is bigger but the size of it when it is folded is a bit thinner. In three dimensions we have width, length, and depth/thickness so yea, Nintendo managed to make one of those dimensions bigger and the other smaller by only twelve percent which, in my opinion, isn't small enough to remove the GBA slot.
