When I go to the VC while my component cables are plugged in the bottom of the start up screen is really messed up, and when I click to start the VC the screen goes completely black and stays that way. Everything else works fine with the component cables. I've also tried two different brand cables (I'm using the Nintendo brand ones right now) and they both do the same thing. I have my Wii set to display in 480p. Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

i heard it's a problem with the wii itself. i cant find the link but it's somewhere on engadget...something from the last couple of days. 480i works fine but for a lot of people 480p isn't outputting a signal or something like that.

I switched my Wii over to 480i with the component cables still hooked up and it still has the same problem. Don't know if that means anything or not.

Are you sure you hooked them up correctly?

Some other forums discus the same problem. I experience it as well. Tried everything, every screen setting etc, but the VC games don't show up. You only get sound. So now I'm using the old cables again and have some component cables lying around gathering dust, until Nintendo solves this problem.

I'm positive that they were hooked up properly. The strange thing is that the shopping channel is the only place that I've run into problems so far.

That's strange. I have component cables to my plasma and everything works fine. VC games and everything. This might be a problem with emulation on the Wii itself. It may be time to call Nintendo.
