Retro Studios New Game For Wii U Could Be Using A New Engine

This is a rumour based off of a tweet from a guy who works for Unseen64.

So basically it means nothing.

Metroid!

We don't have much to run on. I hope it's Metroid. Even if it's not, I'm interested in seeing what they're building. I've enjoyed all of their releases from Metroid Prime to Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze.

It's about time really. Haven't they been using the same engine for all 5 of their games.

I'm really excited to see what they're working on. They are some of the absolute best in the industry.

I hope it is a new Metroid game.

I feel the same way about it. Its been literally at least 5 years since a Metroid game has been released on anything.

2. Retro's been kind of blah, they pretty much fell off a cliff. No one buys their games anymore, especially after their mailed in effort on the 3DS.

Only reason why they might not do metroid yet is they want better hardware.

Whatever they're doing, i'm interested.

Tropical Freeze was an amazing game.

They never worked on the 3DS game.

If it's a Metroid game, I'd seriously consider buying a Wii U.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze 2 ..lol ..doubt its Metroid..:P

A new engine means a 3d game imo most likely. They have a 2d that works fine so they need a big shiny new 3d engine to take advantage of all that U power.

As long as its a serious game not another Donkey Kong (More like Metroid Prime), I'm fine with it. I mean its been nearly 2 years since Retro said they had a major announcement for their next major project (Wanted to announce it a E3 but it wasn't ready enough to be announced. Folks speculated Star Fox or a Star Fox/Metroid Crossover type game) but heard nothing since....

Nintendo probably isn't planning new Wii U games now that they're planning on the NX release, once all the games we currently know are coming out are out that's pretty much it most likely/, hell probably Zelda U is going to be pushed back to be an NX launch title.

I would have never thought any different - a new engine for a new game in a new generation...

i would certainly hope so.

an engine rooted in the wii era would be badly suited to development on the wiiu and would make poor use of the hardware.

i wonder if they are sharing more tech between studios within nintendo now though. in japan they certainly seem to be as the new zelda seems to be using very similar tech to xenoblade X. hopefully that stuff is also be shared effectively with other studios accross the world. it would be a waste for retro to build a new engine from scratch.
