Dunno if anyone has noticed, most likely you have, but look. The X A B Y Button layouts, even the D pad is in the same place. Which i suppose is why there is a third party controller that combines the two.

I wish they would not have them backwards like that. It also puts multiplat games in an awkward position.

I really wish they would have used the same button layout as Xbox instead of it being backwards. Especially since it feels so much like a Xbox controller; I get confused sometimes and hit the wrong button.

Your generation will never understand. B/A is the order. A/B is something Microsoft invented because they they don't like the metric system and dislike cars driving on the left side of the road.

I think most people realized that actually.

The xbox controller uses the same button layout as the Dreamcast controller.

I played the SNES abundantly and I still want a more intuitive alignment of buttons. One that is consistent with Playstation and Xbox controllers. It would be more simple for multiplat games and for players who own more than one console.
