It won't fit in a pocket (only the back) and If I put it in my Backpack and carry it around Uni, i'd have to be really careful with the backpack.

Where could I put it to

a) have easy access

b) not get trotted on/broken

I wouldn't worry about it breaking if I were you. Nintendo's products are usually really sturdy.

  1. Backpack
  2. Cargo pants
  3. Fanny pack

But please try to stay away from #2 and 3.

I would suggest getting a good carrying case for it. Even with my regular 3DS that's pretty sturdy, having a bag to keep it in is just good common sense.
