For GOTY everyone is saying MGS4 and GoW2 and Dead space and stuff, but the thing people forgot is theat GTA IV got perfect 10, and it is so muchg more improved from its past games and stuff.

I think most people have lost interest due to lack of replay value and delayed DLC.

Imo, this game was awesome for the first 20-30 hours. Since I couldn't really stick with the storyline (all I wanted to do was blow things up and kill peds then run from the cops). AFter that... it lost its value to me. Definitely didn't deserve its 10.0 Rating to me.

No I wasnt that impressed with the game either, it was a good game but certainly didnt deserve the critical acclaims it was showered with. Beyond the main missions there just isnt much to do, and the relationships thing was an annoying and stupid gameplay feature.

I play it every single night online with my buds. Excellent game all around. It would be my GOTY pick, but a little thing called LBP came along.

After awhile I just couldn't bring myself to keep playing it. I think it had been 30 hours, the end was still nowhere in sight, and the missions were getting repetitive. It was a good game but there has/will be better this year.

It was by far the most polished GTA, the physics were incredible and the characters were a bit better but it just didn't have the lasting appeal the others had.

I remember playing the other GTA's for weeks after i beat them...when I beat IV i think i played for a few days and moved on. I think the game was too hyped for its own good.

In my opinion the game was terrible.I am gta fan.I loved the old GTA games. But GTA4 was just too damn boring. The storyline was decent at best. The main character and some of the other characters in the game was really good.It was just the dumb story they were in that ruined it.It had its good moments but most of them were dull. The gameplay was too shallow. The main character, all he asked for was money, money, money, but what is the point if you can't spend it on anything. The new cover system was a nice idea but it was so wonky that alot of the times I would rather just crouch instead of taking full cover. The game is suppose to be living the American dream, but there was no mansions,no owning Busniess. The real American Dream GTA game will always be Vice city.In short GTA4 was a Joke in my opinion. It was an over hyped piece of crap with good looking graphics.

It was great but it came out in May. I've got other games to play.

I'm definitely interested in the DLC, though.

Hmm, well if it is still exclusive to 360, then it will be a while before I can get it on PS3, assuming they even release on the PSN.

The dating feature was lame and annoying, there weren't enough interesting things to do and the missions were very repetitive. I also encountered a number of bugs and glitches. Some would argue that the console may be at fault. But I've played 4 other games since then, plus I've had my 360 for over 2 years and that's the only game that glitched so much.

On a lighter note, the graphics were impressive and there was some light humour throughout. If the DLC proves to be of good quality, then I may give it another shot.

How dare you, sir. The dating feature was great. I for one, loved to have Roman call me every five minutes to ask me if I wanted to go see "BEEG AMERICAN TEE TEES", or play darts, or play the drive home drunk and don't get killed game.

Possibly because of the missing action, and stuff to do. Don't get me wrong there were alot of things that could be done but compared to gta san andreas it wasn't much and they've taken out alot. I guess they just wanted to focus on good storyline and awesome physics.

I liked the game, only minus is the replay value is decreased compared to the previous games.

I also liked the serious nature the game had though I missed the "loony" parts of the previous games had.

It could be a contender for the game of the year but I doubt it will win, Great game nonetheless.

Well, of the games I've played, it still should be a candidate at the very least. I think the reason you're not seeing it talked about so much is that it came out a while ago and giving the upcoming holiday onslaught, people have a lot of other games to think about.

I find some of the responses rather interesting- no replay value? Name one other single player experience (since you're obviously not including multiplayer) that lasts for as long as GTA4's that has more replayability released in the last year, sans perhaps an RPG (which probably lacks multiplayer- and I'm ok with that). And I should add that I really feel that very few games come as polished as GTA4, especially given its scope. I know a few of you said you encountered glitches- I didn't. Not to say that it didn't happen for you, but I feel like that if I can put over 30 hours into the game and not experience one, any that you did should be barely counted against it given the game's size and scope.

i honestly think that it has been out for a while and to others it has become old news. that might be why no one cares for it anymore. i care about it though. i play it all the time, that is, until another cool game comes out.

I have, I got about 52% and said forget it.

Missions were dull as hell, and so repeatitive. The gunplay sucked.

However, the world was huge, and the game was very very funny. I chuckled pretty good at bits.

But I came to a realization "Why am I waiting for this to get good? Im half way done, and this pretty much sucks."

10/10 my ass.

He said compared to the other gta games which is true in my opinion. They've taken out alot of the fun stuff, planes, wierd viechels and tons more. They've put a whole other theme to it, the more kinda dark and serious theme which someone may find as no replay value. It still has replay value but it's not even as close to be as much as the others.

(I would have quoted you but something wierd happend. I don't know what. sorry)

The game's mission structure ruined the game... the improved everything else but forgot the main problem with GTA in the first place, the extreamly repetitive (and boring) mission structure. Go there, kill those guys. Pick up this thing, kill some more guys, go to some guys house, shoot him and drive back. Yawn.

I really prefer playing GTA:SanAndreas over GTAIV especially with the free MTA patch making it an awesome online game. Admittedly the graphics arn't as good but the gameplay easily makes up for it :)

I loved it myself and while I certainly still see it in strong contention for GotY I have really high hopes for two games yet to be released, Fable 2 and Gears of War 2. Also it was an early in the year release and unfortunately the excitement is more focused on games that are closest to the end of the year.

All Excellent points and I'd like to add that I haven't experienced any real glitches either.

Also, as to replay value, I play it all the time just to cause carnage and the multiplayer is pretty solid. Hunting your friends down on a map that size, with unlimited resources, is a pretty amazing experience.

name a single player game that kept bugging you to go on dates and hang out with friends to artificially lengthen the game along with portions of the game where you'd have to wait for contacts to call you before you can continue with the game?

If I played Mercenaries 2 and my real life friends called every 10 minutes and wanted to get drunk and play darts, that game would have taken a long time too.

Funny, because I played through the entire game and had minimal issues with the whole cell phone/date thing. Most of the time I simply ignored the calls as almost all of it was OPTIONAL.

Yeah god that was annoying, I started ignoring them all by the time I got to the second safehouse. The game still took me a good 40 odd something hours to through though in its defense. But blah I found it didnt get exciting much until near the end.

Grammaton-Cleric

name a single player game that kept bugging you to go on dates and hang out with friends to artificially lengthen the game along with portions of the game where you'd have to wait for contacts to call you before you can continue with the game?

If I played Mercenaries 2 and my real life friends called every 10 minutes and wanted to get drunk and play darts, that game would have taken a long time too.

Funny, because I played through the entire game and had minimal issues with the whole cell phone/date thing. Most of the time I simply ignored the calls as almost all of it was OPTIONAL.

I don't know what your post added to mine. I wasn't saying you had to do the dates but when the game didn't feel like progressing because contacts important the the plot weren't calling, it was either play darts by myself or finally answer the calls of the annoying bastards that kept giving me a thumbs down when i ignored them.

Yes it's optional but do you have anything to say about how the game artificially lengthened gametime?

You guys rock! Thank you all for confirming what I have been saying all along, even though I have furiously butted heads with about 3 or 4 specific people. You know who you are.

Let me sum up everyone's overall opinions of the game:

The city is huge. The graphics are excellent. Nico is a one-dimensional tool. The dating option was stupid. The waypoint option and navigation routes were borrowed from Saints Row.There weren't nearly as many fun activities as San Andreas.GTAG4 offered some fun? activities that anyone could actually go out and do. (playing a videogame where your character watches tv?) Not as many weapons as SA.

IMO - whether it can be attributed to fanboyism, irrational love for Rockstar or payolee, professional reviewers overrated this game. They helped market this terd for people who really enjoy impressive graphics and physics coupled with lousy gameplay.

Thank you, I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your bartender.

Uh, no. I haven't confirmed anything for you, I made a joke about Roman's accent and odd obsession with his cousin. I'll be damned on the day you of all people get to sum up my opinions for me, and you sure as hell don't get to do it for this community at large either. Seriously? This little war you go on about here on the forums? Only you actually care about it. A lot of us have had our fill of GTA4 for now and are playing holiday games, and a lot of us are playing Saints Row 2, and a few weeks from now we'll have our fill of that and move on again. (if even that long, it IS the holidays afterall, and better games are on the way as we speak) Well, I'm not. I must admit, you've been so dreadfully annoying about the whole thing that I just can't bring myself to play the game, I connect it with you directly, and so I just can't bring myself to play it. I'm usually a pretty impulsive game buyer too, so congrats on actively costing the company and series you praise so much some money, with fans like that, who needs enemies?

We're gamers, we game. Obsessive compulsive disorder, it's treatable, Enig. You get more out of arguing about games than you do playing them, and thats why you lose Enig, always, no matter how an arguement on this forum goes for you or doesn't. This forum has tried to move on several hundred times, you're like the Halo bashers who complain about all the praise and discussion about Halo, but who in reality themselves bring the game up on a constant basis. Get a grip.

Well, thank you for the feedback. As far as ruining your desire to play it, that's your perogative, not mine. I guess certain people should have thought about that before starting this flame ware with me. I could name the culprits, but they know who they are. If they didn't troll a Saints Row thread to flame the game and try to convince everyone to "wait for GTA4" then this would never have gotten so far. Nor would I have been so persistant if certain ignorant Mods and posters didn't keep up their crap with me. They would flame the Saints Row series and worship GTA, but as soon as I argued the issues, they would whine to the Mods to have me modded and the threads locked.

As for your allegations denouncing my qualifications to sum up this thread, read how many posts there are here complaining about the game. Cleary, YOU are not qualified to decide whether or not my summations are accurate. If you really want to hold a debate with me, let's take it into another thread. If it makes you feel better, I'll invite the pretentious clownshoes who started all of this. Clearly, we could argue this issue for years to come, I've got plenty of time. As long as there is excessive or unfair condemnation of the Saints Row series and like praise for GTA, I will continue to debate it till the end of time. No amount of arguing or beaurocratic red tape will hide the fact that professional reviewers were obviously influenced to give GTA4 undeserved scores to help boost its sales. Nor can you ever convince me that when ALL factors are considered (graphics, sound, controls, replay value, physics, story, game content including DLC, innovation, customization, etc) that GTA4 is better than Saints Row 2. So instead of arguing futiley on internet forums, perhaps you should find more constructive ways to pass the time, like knitting or Sudoku.

BTW, I do have OCD as a matter of fact. I'm not sure how you deem that relevant to the topic at hand.

i think its lacked more things than improved ones so people were disappointed even critiques were pleased.

this is the first game without Tank and i think thats a BIG negative alone. they improved gameplay in San Andreas and they left all good gameplay elements people loved out
