and why?

and not a campaign that you thought yeah that was pretty good, i mean one that you came away from thinking wow that was f*ckin brilliant!** preferably not an old one you replayed either, ideally one that was released sometime in the last few years. i'm looking for some inspiration for my next purchase, inspire me gamespot!

**translation: a game you really enjoyed

@Macutchi: I can't think of a "f*ckin brilliant" campaign. As that's usually a term for some sort of linear Shooter/ Action/ Horror game and none have quite reached that level for me in recent years. In a few weeks I maybe able to state 'The Evil Within 2 hits that note' But that's a wait and see situation, and knowing me I'll be bias in its early weeks. . Closest is probably D00M, but it's 'good' in my view and no better, is highly repetitive and has an unnecessary upgrade-sysytem.

The main game I find "brilliant" on modern platforms is Dark Souls III, but it's not really a campaign, or Single-Player. . You can play it in Single-Player but it handicaps the overall experience doing-so.

i meant a campaign of any length from any genre that you've come away from having thoroughly enjoyed it, don't let my phrasing restrict your choices!

Then I'll stick with the Dark Souls III mention, for me personally the game did a lot I wished was in Bloodborne. Bloodborne is a very fun game but has some clear faults I find difficult to overlook.

To add; not expecting you to consider this one but I really enjoyed Tearaway, would even say it's a brilliant 3D Platformer. I hold it up with Nintendos own Super Mario Galaxy.

Clever controls, interesting art-style and enjoyable pacing. Before it can get repetitive it gives you something new to try-out, as it dares to try things other Platform games will not. I've played it a few times for different reasons and have fun every time.

. . But most I find would need an open mind to play a game in which you control a motion control light and envelope with arms and legs. So take that as you will, from my understanding it didn't sell well despite receiving great reviews.

Fallout 4 I think, regardless of its cristisms which I agree about most of them, I lost my self in its world for way over 50 hours.

@RSM-HQ: do you need the camera or companion app to play it? sure i read somewhere that you did.

@thehig1: i played it on release but haven't been touched it since. in the next few months i think i'll mod the ps4 version to the eyeballs (if that's possible) and give it another whirl. the vanilla version was flawed but i still sunk about 25hrs in it

Yeah definitely... ones like Inside and What Remains of Edith Finch come to mind. But Witcher 3 is just in another league imo.

Yakuza 0. A wonderful and inspired game. The fact that it was the first in the series that I have played amplified my enjoyment I think.

I recently replayed a modern favorite of mine. It was Max Payne 3. It has one of the single best campaigns I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

I really enjoyed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. I felt it wouldn't be nearly as good as the other Uncharted games but I actually found it to be really good.

Alien Isolation for sure. If you're a fan of the original Alien atmosphere (like me) and want to play a game that has an antagonist with interesting and complex AI then you should definetly try it out. Close second is DOOM.

@RSM-HQ: it was only about £10 on amazon, so... purchased!

@SoNin360: it's sat on my shelf, i was waiting to replay uc4 before i played it to refresh on the story. is that useful or should i just play it?

@redalert539: you're preaching to the converted my friend - alien isolation is one of my favourite campaigns this gen. as far as a stealth / survival horror fusion goes, it's best in class

@Macutchi: I would say just play it, Uncharted 4's story isn't too important to the plot. Just some small references and stuff, but overall it's its own game with its own story.

If you're into the RTS genre, I'd recommend XCOM:EW or XCOM 2. Their singleplayer can keep you preoccupied for quite some time. It ends up being just one more mission. However if you're looking for an RPG experience, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

Halflife. Not impressive now as it was then, because every man and his dog copied it, but playing that for the first time was Jesus level game.

A great game, one I have replayed many times, but it's not as OP is asking, it's a flawed product. Hopefully the sequel in 11 days irons out TEWs rough edges.

A game that made me go wow that was f$%^&^g brilliant in the last few years was Journey. I guess the experience with this game depends on you at the time of playing it or even connecting with other players along the way. Game doesnt need to be AAA or 10 plus hours long to be amazing.

Some of the stuff i loved/enjoyed heaps in the last and this gen was........

Demons souls because it was hard as f$%k (Not a big fan of hard games tho), amazing game play, great story and satisfaction at the end of it. Its a game that will piss you of if you persist. When you get stuck leave it, come back in a day or two and it keeps going haha.

Heavy rain (Its actually been raining all day where i live haha), Beyond two souls, TLOU because of their great stories and emotional involvement with greatly written and played characters.

RDR and GTAVI for well written and dark stories and also very good characters and acting.

Dr3ver SF was cool, very fun, tons of activities, nice little story.

The Order 1886, maybe short to some, tho i dont know why every game needs to be 10 to 100 plus hours to be good. Enjoyed the setting, awesome atmosphere, great characters, solid and tight gameplay (Just like any other game in this genre). Yeah ending left me little hanging but there is always imagination haha.

Stanley parable, very interesting. All i can think off atm.

ETS2 and i am not joking :D

Dark Souls is one of the best single player games I've ever played. And I say single player because I did not have internet access when I played through it, which made the experience of overcoming everything required that much more rewarding. I will always revere that game.

I play plenty of great games but hardly any I would describe as "Brilliant".

The last "Brilliant" game I played? Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs from 4 years ago. Unique story, excellent writing, very immersive game in my opinion.

If that's too old, I dunno what to tell you. Most recent game I beat was Ruiner and yes, it's a very good game. Wouldn't describe it as "Brilliant" though. Top down shooter with a cyber punk theme.

Horizon Zero Dawn. I finished that game thinking, damn that was a hell of an experience and i cant wait for the upcoming expansion. I loved the world, the combat mechanics, the characters were endearing, the story was very good, and the ending was very satisfying.

@Sam3231: c'mon sam, you must have played at least a few great campaigns in the past few years. swap out the word brilliant for great, or just very good even ;)

@Khazrak134: it's a brilliant game. i loved it. one of @RSM-HQ's favourites too iirc. i'm just a tiny bit burnt out on open world games right now tbh, the thought of replaying it any time soon has no appeal

@Macutchi: I would check out any of these "campaigns"

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Hyper Light Drifter
  • Furi
  • Doom (2016)
  • Fallout 4
  • Battlefield 1
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

All fairly recent games.

The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Ghost Recon Wildlands (I played solo), Dishonored 2, Sniper Elite 4, and Far Cry 4/Primal. Might as well throw in The Evil Within too. I'm looking forward to the second one.

Gave F.E.A.R a go for the first time a few months back. Fugly as sin but the combat mechanics were really good. Alma was a nice scare factor and the ending was pretty cool.

The campaign left me satisfied and kind of sad i did not play this back when it was a thing...

Last year? Doom 2016.

This year? It's Fallout 4. I followed it up with Fallout 3. But, I didn't enjoy it as much as Fallout 4.

I'm currently playing the free-roam part of Call of Chernobyl (mod for Call of Pripyat). I'm having a blast with the expanded game world just doing odd jobs. It has more of a Wild West feel than most Western-themed games.

I'm trying to shake myself out of the Reset Outpost mode of both Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4. So far, Call of Chernobyl is the only game (mod) that is succeeding.

i recommend you to play this game: Hellblade Senuas Sacrifice

the game is very good and has a nice story, you will love it for sure

excellent narrative storytelling, excellent scene direction, excellent acting and truly outstanding graphic animations.

after that , i liked the game and purchased it from the main steam portal site: http://store.steampowered.com/app/414340/Hellblade_Senuas_Sacrifice

i have first downloaded it to test it from : http://www.rapid-games.org/hellblade-senuas-sacrifice-reloaded/

Story was perfect everything was just in a place that it should be! But ending was not what I expected but I think its good for having another episode of this great game! I wish the story was longer...

Graphics was so good I enjoyed it and I know that you will enjoy it without a doubt!

The best fighting and movements that I ever seen! Fighting elements was near to the reality!

About the optimization I have to say it could be better optimized if ninja theory worked more on it! I got 30 - 40 fps on 1080p in medium setting with a gtx 960m, So it was not bad at all but it could be better...

Controls are good I've played with mouse and keyboard but using a controller is highly recommended

The game has a very good audio the sounds are so good that sometimes I thought I'm in the game! Using a headset is strongly recommended!

Map and environment is limited and there's no guide for you to find your way! You should find the way on your own!

I totally recommend this game, It worth buying and playing

Appreciate how open it is but don't feel quite apathetic towards it's world, characters and enemies. Still pretty early in, so that may change, right now Pillars is consuming time in huge spades.
