The Fondest of Farewells

Always my favorite writer on the site. When Jeff left and the schism happened, I mostly ever came back to the site to read your reviews and articles. Your efforts in building the site up, leading the writers and reviewers and even trying to keep podcasts and content ever going on Gamespot always appreciated and were what brought me back to the site regularly in the recent years. Just wanted to know that all your work was appreciated (often doesn't get said enough when someone does a good job as opposed to the negative feedback). You've a fan for life and looking forward to all your work in the future!

Kevin VanOrd is pretty much the only reason that I started coming to Gamespot. I'm really grateful for everything you've done over the years Kevin. All of the content that you showed us, and all of the different opinions and perspectives that I learned about from shows like Gamespot Gameplay, really helped to shape my ideas of Games and the Games industry. Not only did you help me learn about games, but you also helped inspire me to try doing reviews and gaming content of my own. I'm happy that this website gave me the chance to get to know you and all of the other people here at Gamespot.

I really hope that you continue to grow and develop as a writer (and a person) and complete all of the goals you set for yourself. It may be selfish on my part, but I hope that you'll continue to write reviews and make gaming content every now and then while you focus on your new projects.

Wow, I always kinda figured you'd work at Gamespot forever, maybe that was unrealistic :). New job sounds like a good fit too, I always felt you had a lot of passion for the writing in games and I sometimes complained about that fact, thinking you had maybe just slightly unfairly punished a game a bit too much for not having a great story :).

You were my favorite reviewer, i still remember the day you gave Prime 3 an 8, and i said...that guy is crazy (then i played it and i found out it was an 8 indeed), but as i read more and more reviews from you, i always found your opinion very close to mine, i also enjoyed how we liked the same things on a game, like art direction, music, characters, your Eternal Sonata review made me buy the game, and i'm glad i did, i enjoyed it a lot.

You were also a great inspiration for me, i tend to do some freelance writting, more for a hobby than for a job, but everytime i struggled to write something i thought about my favorite reviewers (you among them of course), i always, always liked your job even when i entirely disagree with you (MGS4...a 10? really?), we will miss you mr. VanOrd, we will miss you a lot.

Have a great future, we all know you deserve this opportunity.
