Super Mario RPG: OFFICIALLY Best game of all time?

Mario RPG is not even a good game. You change the name to something else and everybody would ignore it. All the fuss is because it says "Mario" on the tittle.

Best of the Super Nintendo or maybe the 16-bit era. The 4th generation. It is one of my all time best for the SNES.

But of All time? I don't know if any 1 game can make that claim.

I've never been able to make myself sit down and play it all the way through. I love everything about it, but I can never get immersed into the game for some reason. It's definitely a fantastic game, and was quit a technical accomplishment on the SNES, but I would say games like Final Fantasy III or Chrono Trigger have it beat.

Super Mario RPG is a fantastic game, one of my favorite SNES titles, but it is far from "greatest game of all time". It's a Final Fantasy-inspired RPG, for obvious reasons (plus there's Culex), and never really contributed to gaming as a whole.

 

I say a game the qualifies for greatest game of all time is one that had immeasurable impact on the industry while also being an amazing game in its own right, and that's why you see games like Space Invaders, DOOM, OoT, and FFVII on the more trustworthy lists. Whether or not you enjoyed them, they are all solid games that left a lasting impact.

To me, that's Super Mario 64. People have attempted to tell me it wasn't as revolutionary as many consider it, but that doesn't change the fact that many game developers consider it among the most important games forming the foundation of exploratory 3D gaming. It's just my opinion, though.

Definitely not, great game though.  In terms of Mario RPGs, I actually like Paper Mario 64 better.  

In terms of best of all time, I'd go with any of these 10 games (can't choose 1):

1.  F-Zero GX

2.  Metroid Prime 

3.  Super Smash Brothers Melee

4.  Super Mario World

5.  Super Mario 64

6.  Mega Man 2/3/9 (I like all of them equally)

7.  Chrono Trigger

8.  Advance Wars Dual Strike

9.  Donkey Kong Country 2

10.  Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow/Symphony of the Night/Super Castlevania IV (can't choose one)

Everyone has there favorite in my opinion Super Mario World is the pinnacle of 2D platforming and the best game in my opinion.

I don't understand OP's logic at all. "Many people say this game is one of the best games but nobody actually says it's the best game. So can we all agree that it's the best game ever?" JML897

lol, that's pretty much the OP in a nutshell.

Paper Mario crushes it 10 fold, and I wouldn't call Paper Mario the best game of all time.  Maybe the best RPG though.
