The first one was redone as a playable module for NWN2. Same goes with Icewind Dale.

If you're looking for an updated Morrowind, there's a project underway called Skywind that's attempting to put morrowind in the engine used for Skyrim.

I played through Morrowind back before all the mods and I thought it was fine.

Exult makes Ultima 7 pretty playable, considering it barely worked on modern machines until GoG released it's version.

yeah, they released it with higher resolutions and some upgraded textures. It's all stuff you can do with mods yourself, but some people will find it worthwhile to just get the remastered versions so they don't have to go out of there way to learn how to mod it.

But this sort of thing happens with a lot of classic, old school RPGs that people want to play forever...Torment, KotOR, etc. Some ambitious modders just redo the textures and unlock resolution sizes. They won't look as good similar current gen games, but they are much less offensive to our HD senibilities :D.

As far as the Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3/NV, it's a whole 'nother level of modding than simple texture packs, although you can find those as well...one modder, zonzai, released a skin texture pack that even in its alpha state is, imo, the best skin texture in gaming right now. But for these games, there are mods for everything - new armors/clothes, new areas, storyline, characters/followers, weapons, game rebalances, combat overhauls, weather effects, groundcover, etc, etc. And because of ENBs, there are some screens out there of Skyrim in 4k with 4k textures looking better than damn near every "next gen" game out there right now.

Some 2D RPGs like Arcanum, Fallout 1 and 2 and Divine Divinity are still very playable (and still look quite good) with a few bug fix patches and widescreen mods:
