You say no team based RPGs because you don't like AI getting in the way, but what about team based RPGs that don't feature AI like that and require you to manage each character?
For RPGs like that, Divinity: Original Sin is pretty good. Story isn't that hot, but the combat is a lot of fun. It has a standard turn based battle system with intense environmental modifications. Basically you control 2-4 different NPCs and they each have a pool of points per turn. Moving expends points as well as performing actions. There's a lot of fun stuff like when you hit enemies, they bleed. You can then vaporize that blood with a fire spell which will create a cloud of steam. Then you can cast a lightning spell at that cloud of steam, creating a storm cloud that will shock anyone nearby, friend or foe. You can seed the battlefield with poison pools and then throw a fireball, making them all explode. Lots of fun stuff like that. Setting is generic high fantasy.
Wasteland 2 is a pretty fantastic turn based RPG where you control a group up to a size of 7. It has a standard XCOM style turn based system using a combination of explosives, melee weapons, and ranged weapons (handguns, assault rifles, shotguns, submachine guns, sniper rifles). You can hide behind cover, aim headshots, etc. Setting is post apocalyptic, think Fallout (the original Fallout which was also a turn based RPG like Wasteland 2 was basically a spiritual sequel to the original Wasteland).
wiouds mentioned Pillars of Eternity, hands down my pick for best game of 2015 so far. Incredible game. It has it all, tons of customization, an incredible story, a great world, non-linear quest design, factions to side with, incredibly deep and challenging combat, tons of settings to make the game play like you want, etc. You also control a party, but it's much more like Baldur's Gate than Dragon Age. There are no AI settings you can pick so you'll have to micromanage each character. You can just command your entire party to attack an enemy and then sit and watch them do it like it's an RTS game but that's usually inefficient and will you get you hopelessly crushed against bigger groups of enemies.
As for action RPGs, you've already played most of the good ones. You mentioned Diablo and Torchlight, so you might want to try the older game Titan Quest. It was much, MUCH better than the Torchlight games. Or the new game from those guys, Grim Dawn, but I think it's still in early access. I haven't played it yet (I avoid early access) so no comment on how good or bad it is.
You could try Darksiders 2. It has the loot system and skill trees from a Diablo game, the world design and dungeon design of a Zelda game, and the combat of a God of War game. It's a pretty fantastic game, IMO. If you play it on PC, you will experience microstuttering unless you change some settings in the Nvidia control panel (or the AMD equivalent) but that's not a big deal.
