A while back somebody was claiming PS2s were becoming impossible to find, in effect increasing the asking price of the console. Well, Tiger Direct and Circuit City, among others, have them in stock.

Brand New PS2s have become harder to find, however I see used ones all the time, sometimes for really cheap.

I guess if you wanted brand new, $130 isnt terrible. Ive picked up 4 PS2 fattys and 2 PS2 slims from Goodwills this year for $5-$25 apiece. They all worked. I kept the $5 slim for myself then sold the others each for about $40ish with a couple cheap games I also picked up.

Tried to sell a new PS2 a couple years ago for $50.00 and got no takers - makes me glad I hoarded it, I mean held on to it.

the sad part is, I honestly don't think $130 is all that bad, given that its a do-all machine that will play your dvds, PS1 and PS2 games.

and you're paying for the "brand new" factor, which is relevant because of how many game/video hours most used PS2s have already logged.

130$ is quite cheap for a new PS2; equivalent to £81.

Over here they're holding steady at between £100 and £120, which is still reasonable for brand new. And up to 2012 they were still being made, though not sure if they are now.

its worse in Europe, on Amazon UK a new PS2 costs £114 , which is more like 200 dollars. I still can't understand why it costs this much , the hardware is 12 years old, unless the hardware itself isn't being made anymore which drives up prices due to limited stocks.

I think my local gamestop has a bunch of PS2 for like 30 bucks along with some gamecubes...sucks to be you guys. Actually looked on gamestops website and they have 36 consoles within 15 miles from my house but they're 50 bucks each. I guess the 130 for a new console is pretty good.

My time as a student is worth more to me than the time required to purchase and resell the PS2 consoles, oh well. But I guess someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed, no need to get annoyed at what you think I'm trying to pretend to be (don't even know where you got that from).

PS2s and games are actually so easy to come by. Part of the reason why I'm now collecting for the system.

Well, at least PS2's have lead solder, can't say the same for the PS3.

Shenmue_Jehuty
That was my reason for posting this. They're still readily available from established retailers. There's likely warehouses full of new ps2s. I remember when Amazon was selling new Dreamcasts for $88--which happened two times in the last 3 years or so. How I kick myself for not buying one, sometimes. For ps2 though, the used market is a risky one. As pointed out, one doesn't know the care of a system when buying used, which is all the more important on a disc based platform. I've got a perfectly fine working fat model, but I'm thinking about getting another for the long haul.

There's nothing wrong with lead free solder, just the stuff they used. Still, if you are handy, you can always reball, provided you already have the equipment. If not, you can always just sent it in to be repaired.

I'm more shocked hearing that Circuit City is still around rather than the PS2 being $130:P I thought they went out of bussiness like 10 years ago

My time as a student is worth more to me than BLAHBLAHBLAH... Boy can I drone on and on about my insignificant existence, or WHAT...

For a student, you've got utter **** for brains and zero reading comprehension... We're discussing NEW PS2s, not used available at GameStop.

READ, then open your gob.

If you ever go to Thailand on holiday you can pick a new one up for US$65!

They play my European games and the ehr "Street Vendor " games. I'm no expert but I think they are all modded out of the box. But when I asked the guy in the shop he said "Play Euro, USA Japan, no need chip".
