Our local radio station got a chance to speak to developer Brianna Wu[/URL] who was attacked by Gamergaters, she speaks out against those who wish to do her harm..

AND finds something to agree with in the Gamer Gate movement. Specifically the close relationships between major websites and the people who make games. 'COUGH' IGN.

Yeah that's not proof, just allegations. If you're going to make bold claims, you need factual proof to back them up.

Yes, without proof. Anyone can make accusations, it's easy. It could very well be that some GG affiliate did threaten her, but then again, maybe not. Maybe someone was directed to make the threat so she could play the victim. Who knows?

Without proof it's all he-said she-said conjecture.

Some of those links in that article were left-wing extreme. Equally as bad as Fox News or Rush Limbaugh from the right. Anyone on extreme sides will always warrant skepticism from me and most logical thinking adults.

you didn't respond to my argument. I never said threatening anyone is acceptable. GamerGate has been about including women, people who are threatining women are not part of what we are trying to achieve. It's not even about them. The goal is to go after sites like Kotaku, Rock Paper Shotgun, Destrictoid, Gameinformer, etc. They all go after gamers by doing this.

If you think that going against is so noble, why is it that Mercedes, BMW, Adobe, Intel and others have left the sites you seem to support?

Gamergate isn't 'about' anything, it's an agglomeration of any number different sentiments and the people attached to them and there is no centralized body that has any 'goals' or offers any definition of its ideas.

For someone who hosts a radio show and has a news website, you sure aren't neutral in all this. No credibility to be found.

This is a perplexing ideal. Story telling....isn't catered to any one sex, unless it's done poorly. The Damsel in distress trope...is an example of poor story telling in that it doesn't take advantage of all possible character options. Women are increasingly being portrayed simplier and simplier in gaming...for no real justifiable reason.

These are not competing ideology. It's bad story telling, versus good story telling. Gaming will be a better medium to express ideas, if they do away with bronze ages myths and focus on creating the most with what they have.

The only way someone is going to attack your "Gamer Identity" is if you force them into your narrow world view. Enjoy comprehensive storytelling and expect more for developers and journalists.

She at least provided testimony. Seeing her home address appear on one of the IRC channels of one GamerGate's hubs only to be sent a threat with that same address soon after makes an awfully convincing case. All GamerGate's had to say in response is the ol' "wasn't us!" excuse, which has worn thin after being enacted so much.

There's no hub of GamerGate... Supporters of Gamergate are on every freaking forum and site if you're going to follow that logic...

Places like 8Chan, who have a dedicated Gamergate board, would suggest otherwise. But of course it's easier to shrug off responsibility for anything Gamergate does if no hubs exist, right? Easier to push the ol' "their actions don't represent us" narrative if there's not a single place where gamergaters can congregate. It's just a faceless angry mob, after all.

The actions have been condemned several times. There have been charities set up and big companies have not sided with SJW. GG is so horrible

Have you ever stopped to consider why Gamergate discussion has been banned on those sites? Why the entire movement's been condemned and denounced? If not, take a moment and really consider it. Might open your eyes to the truth.

The reason we have trope is because they are good story telling. There are good reason why they are used so often.

If you want to talk about narrow view point how about we talk about those that make any thing to match their narrow view point and not accept others points.

Do you know what gamergate is?

Gamergate was a pack of dogs chasing a fox. When they cornered the fox, the fox threw a smoke bomb and left a log behind when it escaped. But gamergate, being a pack of dogs and thus very stupid and vicious, savaged the log instead of resuming the chase with the fox.

Meanwhile the fox is safely back in it's den snickering at the stupidity of the dogs, while the dogs are still gnawing contentedly at their log and snapping at each other.

Because it's the same media GamerGate denounces so they need to get rid of GamerGate discussion.

Again though, GamerGate is anonymous cosnumer revolt.

Dismissing it based on the 3 or 4 actions of some individuals who may or may not be related to GamerGate (so far there's no evidence that any harassment is connected with GamerGate) is a sign of bias.

Also, you are conveniently ignoring that many supporters of GamerGate have been target of assault and harassed as well but I don't see you worrying that much for this kind of abuse.

Finally, you seem familiar with 8chan. Go there and I'll bet you that you won't find ANY users conspiring to doxx and harass.

The burden of proof is on the accuser.

We live in a free society where people are innocent until proven otherwise.

Even if she proved that the people who harassed were somehow related to GG, it would be a moot point to say a movement perhaps of hundreds of thousands of consumers are responsible for the actions a handful of people, especially since the VAST majority of GG have clearly denounced acts of violence and actually have taken part in numerous charity fundings.

I find it weird that most discussions of GG are not about the journalism corruption and collusion it showcases but about accusations and generalizations without any evidence or even indication.

Again, there's not even an indication that anyone who harassed Wu is related to GamerGate.

I don't align myself with gamergate because I don't believe every gaming media outlet is corrupt. But then again, I certainly don't agree with this SJW movement either. Sarkeesian is a very polarizing figure who I find to be disingenuous at best. I've watched some of her vids and she's basically full of shit most of the time.

I'm all for women's equal rights, but not for political correctness in video games and entertainment media in general. Why would we try to make fictional worlds a perfect place that doesn't reflect society or real world problems? Who has the right to dictate exactly what we're all allowed to enjoy from this fantasy based media?

I feel like the backlash against GG is an attempt to push an extreme liberal agenda and change who gaming content is actually catered to. I don't know if these threats are coming from them or not, and threats of violence and rape are never acceptable. I can understand why they formed an alliance against the corruption of some gaming media and the way gamers in general have been treated by the social justice infestation. They're basically being attacked and blamed for the actions of a very small few, and being told that their consumerism doesn't count for keeping true gaming afloat.

I see people trying to lump smart phone and tablet gaming in with everything to falsely suggest women are a majority of players. That'd be like trying to claiming people who drive over the speed limit are actually professional race car drivers. Dedicated gaming and gamers should not be mixed in with the casual group of candy crush saga and farmville consumers because both are very different groups of consumers who have very different tastes.
