The p tags are necessary or the filter will give you the HTML not well-formed error. You must also leave the quotation marks out of the href attribute.
What I've been doing is stuff like this: Google. (You should be able to quote that to see it.) I don't know about it being a lost cause, but it does leave one wondering.gmax
That doesn't work for me. :(. I had to change your link to BBCode to get it to quote right for me.
Google
... That doesn't work for me. :(.verbtexLooks like you're using the wysiwyg editor - I have no idea what effect that could have. I did, however, have some trouble trying to quote my own message just now to double check it - I kept getting a page that did not have a visible textarea on it. Third or fourth time it worked though. I got the same no-textarea issue the first time I tried to quote your message too. I have no idea what that's all about either.
... I read your post on the first page again. ...silentexistenceI also noticed the name attribute could disrupt the transformation in my tests back then. I mentioned the target attribute because I generally need it anyway, so all I had to do was fight my habit of putting the href first. As far as I can tell it's still not possible to just put in an "a href" and have it succeed or even a "properly" coded rel="nofollow".
How is this not fixed yet? Link functionality worked without issue for over a decade, yet it's been broken for months, now.
This is a very, very annoying issue, and is one of the reasons I have not been posting blog entries (and I use to post a lot). Please fix it.

I very much agree. On any other website it would be crazy having not been fixed since August. On GameSpot, I just am kind of resigned to it at this point.
this needs to be fixed hopefully soon! we need to be able to post links, how else can we back up topics we create?Big_Evil666
You can post a link, you just do this:
Whatever you want to put in here
And make sure you unlink the url itself.
Pretty sad that this issue hasn't been fix yet through. It been around half of year now.

Hey guys, I wanted to jump in here as I have been getting the
Errors:
message for a long while now and no matter what I do I cannot get around it. I've tried disabling the WYSIWYG in my Preferences, nothing. Keeping it on, nothing. Typing in the code also gets me the same error.
Turn off the editor and apply changes. What I do is open this thread and copy the BBCode in the 3rd post of this thread - works every time.Hey guys, I wanted to jump in here as I have been getting the
Errors:
- - Tagamay not have attributerel
- - If you are copying from a word processing software, try pasting the text into a plain text editor (e.g., Notepad) first.
- - If problems persist, try disabling the WYSIWYG editor in your preferences.

The p tags are necessary or the filter will give you the HTML not well-formed error. You must also leave the quotation marks out of the href attribute. Why does it accept that? :? Why does it accept that? :?horgen123That's a good question I had not asked myself - I think it's the absence of quotes around the href value and surrounding the anchor (a) pair with other markup. Doesn't make much sense to me, but it does seem to do something at the moment.
I've tried to get it right but I can't seem to. I'm doing something wrong.KrunkMastaXCopy & paste the BBCode in the 3rd post of this thread, then change the URL and text label to what you need.

I was using that code since the linking began acting up, and just copying and editing the code from my signature (going through my settings). I don't know how, but the code somehow changed back to the unedited version that was returning errors, and I thought that neither one worked. Good to know now that the rearranged version still works; not sure how it occurred that the coding of my sig changed. :|
[QUOTE="GameSpot"]Thanks for the heads-up. hows the test?More testing planned next week.
Thank you.
