My favorite Disney game.

User Rating: 10 | Disney's Aladdin GEN

This game is my favorite 16-Bit game, and it's also my favorite 2D platformer and my favorite Disney game. It's gameplay feels so smooth and I love the look and design of it's stages. It also has the memorable music from the movie.

For people who haven't seen the movie, the story in Aladdin is about a good hearted guy who lives on the streets(named Aladdin)who has a monkey friend that follow him everywhere(named Abu). The both of them are forced to scavenge for food or steal money to buy food and to give you an idea what kind of guy Aladdin is,on one occasion Aladdin and Abu finally had the chance to eat,but they saw 2 children looking for food amongst the garbage and Aladdin offered to share his food with the children and forced Abu to do the same.

Aladdin is also a special person, because he is a special person who can enter the cave of wonders, where a special lamp is which has a genie inside that can grant wishes. However an evil man named Jafar wants to retrieve he lamp first,so he can free the genie and the genie will have no choice but to grant Jafar wishes and Jafar knows he could use those wishes to take over the world.Jafar is an adviser for the Sultan and has a lot of power within the kingdom and after he discovers Aladdin is the special person who can enter the cave of wonders,Jafar has Aladdin arrested and plans to use Aladdin to retrieve the lamp, then kill him.

There's also a princess in the story named Jasmine, and she feels trapped within the kingdom and is being forced to find a husband and Aladdin is in love with her,but he knows he could never be with her unless he becomes a prince and Jafar wants Jasmine to be his wife too.

After Aladdin frees the Genie,he gets 3 wishes, but the rules are he cannot use the wishes to kill anyone, bring anyone back from the dead,or make anyone fall in love with him,so Aladdin wishes to be a prince,so he will have a chance of marrying Jasmine. And Aladdin promises to use his final wish to free the genie so the genie won't have to serve anymore people. But,Aladdin is forced to break his promise in order to stop Jafar, and Jafar manages to get possession of the lamp and the genie is forced to grant Jafar wishes, and Jafar uses the wishes to become extremely powerful and the new Sultan and Aladdin must stop him.

The gameplay mixes platforming, hack n slash, projectile throwing, finding quest items, riding on the carpet while trying to dodge objects and enemy attacks while taking out enemies too and some boss fights. The projectiles you'll throw are apples which can be found all over the place, and you can use them to take out enemies from a safe distance, but you'll need apples to defeat some of the bosses and if you die, you'll lose most of your apples.

Like I've mentioned before, the gameplay feels so smooth, whether you're jumping, swinging your scimitar, climbing,it feels so fun and natural. The stage designs are fun,as you'll need to try to find a way through the Arabian streets while avoiding guards who are chasing you,as well as doing this in the desert, dungeon,Sultan's palace and Jafar's palace. Also, some of the stages include the cave of wonders, which have bats and other dangerous creatures inside it,and you'll need to escape the cave of wonders after it begins to collapse and you'll need to outrun giant boulders, make giant leaps over lava and fly on the magic carpet while avoiding debris to escape,an there's also a cute, charming stage that's inside the Genie's lamp, where you need to find your way out of the lamp.Ocassionaly in places you'll need to climb or pull yourself across areas and inside the Genie's lamp, you'll need to grab onto balloons and use them to leap from one to the other to reach another section and you have to jump to the next balloon before the one you're clinging onto pops,as well as bouncing off little genie heads in some places too.

Some of the guards will swing their giant scimitar blades at you, some guards are fat and cumbersome and will stand their eating for a while until they notice you,and will throw knives at you because they're too fat to chase you and sometimes their pants will fall down and they'll be too embarassed to fight and it's quite funny.Enemies also include knife jugglers, wild animals such as birds, bats, snakes, and mythical creatures. The bosses will include skilled a knivesmen,a big guard who will throw barrels at you and throw knives at you and you'll need to jump over the barrels and make it to the top platform where you can throw apples at him(similar to Donkey Kong, except without the apples),and there's a boss battle against 2 mythical creatures that guard the cave of wonders, and Jafar's parrot who uses some machine to try to kill you and you'll have a final showdown with Jafar himself.

It's fun running across the roof tops of the Arabian city and trying to climb giant ropes trying to make it out of the place. The escape stage(when you're trying to escape the cave of wonders,is still my favorite stage, because the music for that stage is so memorable for me,and when you're making the death defying leaps over lava, outrunning giant boulders and trying to make it to the magic carpet with the electronic music playing in the background,it kept me on the edge of my seat.

The beautiful ''a whole new world'' song plays when you win the game and you'll see Aladdin and Jasmin riding the magic carpet together under the stars.

Many of the memorable tunes from the movie are in the game.

The graphics do a good job of representing the movie, this is definately one of the better looking GENESIS games. The Arabian streets and markets and the smooth animation reminds me of the movie, and so does the artstyle for the other levels. There's also some cutscenes to show story elements.

There's a jackpot mini game in between levels and you access it by finding tokens throughout levels, and you can gain extra lives, gems, apples. There's also another mini game where you use Abu and dodge barrels and fight off enemies and you can earn extra lives and apples. You can also find gems in the levels and use them to buy extra lives/continues from store people, and some of the gems and store people are hidden and some of the gems are risky to get,but it's worth it.Aladdin is one of those old school games with no save feature,so once you're out of lives,it's game over and you'll have to restart from the beginning.

Overall,my favorite 16-Bit game,platformer,and Disney game.
