Great classic shooter

Contra games have one objective: kill and move your way forward through each level. The first one started off with a bang and was quite challenging. One of the interesting things about classic shooters and side-scrollers is that a lot of them were harder even with simpler controls because it forced you to get through levels with a combination of skill and luck, rather than more skill.

You can play single or solo, which makes for a good game. Dual play allows for you to survive a little longer because you have someone to watch your back. The graphics are pretty good for an NES game and the sound is decent too. As I said with simple controls, you get used to the feel of the game quickly, but have to master the jumping and changing levels in each stage. Getting the powerups helps a lot because you get wide-spread or homing ammo.

Quite a good game!
