the call of duty series was always centered in the world war 2 era. for 3 games it stayed true to this until call of duty 4 arrived. this one was centered in modern times hence the title modern warfare. this jump to the modern world was very successful and introduced a whole new system of classes and assorted perks. but then came call of duty world at war. the thought that the series went back to wwII was a disappointment for many including myself, until i bought it that is. this game features the same gameplay as cod4 with some new perks and new features like bayonets for rifles. but this time you play as pvt. miller, an american soldier captured by the Japanese in the pacific. you also play as a soviet soldier who's name i can't remember. in the red army you fight into berlin the heart of nazi germany. and as miller you play through a series of fights in the pacific islands. the games graphics are fantastic and i believe they capture the correct atmosphere. in the previous cod games, everything was always bright and happy. but this game has a dark and gloomy feel to it, which is how it should be. now a real treat is when you beat the game. you unlock nacht der untoten or night of the undead. this is a mode were you fight wave after wave of endless nazi zombies.it's fun and challenging to play but it's even better in coop mode. now campaign mode, it was an amazing experience but also a disappointing one. the graphics and cinematics were beautiful as was the gameplay and the new weapon models and animations. i love torching the japanese as much as the next guy but the campaign mode was way too short. about an hour into the first sit down i was about half way through. despite it's disappointing length call of duty world at war is an awesome game
