Not to good for an old console

Bionic Commando was one of those games that you could beat on for a month without making it past level three only to have one of your friends come over and breeze through it in an hour. As a side scrolling platform game it remains a classic if only for it's gimmick: the bionic commando's grappling arm. Lame as it may sound now, the ability to swing over obstacles and reach higher platforms gave gamers a new sense of control over their environment. At this point in gaming anything that let you do something other than "jump" or "fire" was considered revolutionary. Beyond the whole "grappling arm" deal you're pretty much left with by-the-numbers side scroller that does just enough to stand out from the crowd, but never blows you away. The mere fact that there wasn't a slew of sequels to Bionic Commando (as opposed to the Mario, Sonic, Mega Man titles) let's you know all you need to about it's impact on the gaming world at the time. Bionic commando is a good game, a one-trick pony, but a solid NES game nonetheless.
