Guild Wars 2 gets $150 Collector's Edition

Premium bundle to include 10-inch warrior statue, "making of" book, soundtrack CD, and in-game items; early access promotion detailed.

Gamers seeking out a premium version of ArenaNet's much-anticipated massively multiplayer online role-playing game Guild Wars 2 are in luck. Publisher NCsoft today took the wraps off the Guild Wars 2 Collector's Edition, noting the $150 bundle will include a host of real-world and in-game items.

Guild Wars 2 doesn't have a release date yet, but gamers can pre-purchase it beginning next month.

The centerpiece of the Guild Wars 2 Collector's Edition is a hand-painted 10-inch statue of the bestial warrior Rytlock Brimstone wielding a flaming sword. In addition, players who pick up that bundle will receive five Guild Wars 2 art prints and a custom frame, as well as a 112-page Making of Guild Wars 2 hardcover book, and a Best of Guild Wars 2 soundtrack CD.

The Guild Wars 2 Collector's Edition also comes with in-game items. Players will score five wares, including Mistfire Wolf and miniature Rytlock companions.

NCsoft also announced a $70 Digital Deluxe version of Guild Wars 2, but the publisher did not share any details concerning this pack. Players who pre-purchase any version of Guild Wars 2 will be awarded an "exclusive" stat-boosting Hero's band.

On top of the bonuses included in the premium versions of Guild Wars 2, gamers who pre-purchase the game will be guaranteed access to all upcoming beta weekend events. In addition, those who pre-buy can play the title three days ahead of its launch date.

Early access to Guild Wars 2 isn't limited to those who purchase the game in full prior to its release. Gamers who preorder the Guild Wars 2 from participating retailers will receive a one-day head start ahead of the game's full launch.

A beta for Guild Wars 2--which attracted over 1 million applicants--will begin in March, with the full game expected to be released during 2012. The team at ArenaNet has a small group working on a console version of the game, but no announcements have been made concerning Guild Wars 2 arriving outside of the PC.

I have The Art of Guild Wars 2, which I ordered from PAX a couple years ago.  The making of book looks really nice too, and will likely feature some new art that wasn't available previously.  And of course, I want the soundtrack CD.  The rest of it is fluff, but if the quality of the charr figurine is good that might be nice too.  Apparently I just have to wait until August 28, 2012.

@Vishisluv7 Well that makes two rich people in this forum. I assume that a frequent bar tab of $220 would be out of reach for most people here. Just like you should have assumed that if I can pay $220 for GW2 I might have an indoor ungated cash pool that i swim in each morning.

vishisluv7

@airmanwilkins That's a total of $220. That makes you rich? lol. That's a bar tab. What 3rd world country are you from?

I'm buying the CE for my collection and the DDE to play. It feels good to be rich! QQ to all the poor people here... bring it haters!

Why only things with fangs, claws and sharp spikes are considered "COOL"? I don't like this charr at all... I like the making of book, also considering other fluff items that you'll outlevel and stop using after a week - I am getting DDE at the most, if not a regular edition. Got SWTOR CE, had GW CE, I don't know, I don't feel these fluff items are worth the spending any more. I don't like Charr race either. So.. very slim chance that I'll be getting CE this time. Also US lately imports a LOT of stuff from Asia. Starting from furniture and ending with kitchen utencils. And quality of those items are on par with local that cost 5-10 times more.

@illegalChronic I recognize that the US certainly does not produce the best quality in many cases. However, I am supporting the US because I am a US citizen, not because of the quality. When I said "a country known for high quality" I meant a place like Japan. I am against Made in China not because I think all Chinese goods are poor but because China has a manufacturing industry that can turn out every quality between suitable for a space missions to not fit for animals. It's regulated in such a way that for any given purchase, it's almost impossible for me to know where on the quality spectrum the good falls. I am risk-averse. Least you think I am racist, I am ethnically Chinese.

CE will definately be worth it... they're just teasing me at this point XD

If you're 17 and don't have a job, like me, then yeah $150 is high. But somehow I think almost all of you do have a job and are probably in your twenties. If you really wanted this game in the first place and have the money, then you'd get the CE either way. If you really wanted this game and didn't have the money, then you'd get the DD edition, like me :P. It's also good to consider what the total cost of the CE stuff is anyway: The fact that it's boxed and in a nice case is at least $10, the digital items are $10, the frame is probably $5, the prints $45 (check LTL prints), the soundtrack $10 (probably worth more), the "making of" book is probably at least $15, more on the $20 side, and the finely-detailed Rytlock figurine has got to be at least $15 dollars. In total that's $110, give or take. Add that all up on top of the normal $60 game, and it comes to, $170. Leave out marketing and you're getting EXACTLY what you're paying for :P.

Remember, to all you people who say nayyyyyy the CE is a waste of money!!! the first Guild Wars CE Prophecies was sold for 100 or so when released then it became highly sought after and was selling for over $300. A collector's edition is named "collector's edition" for a reason ;)

GW2 is gonna be a gr8 game guys , i think if ur a real fan u should get the CE it worth more than 150$ imo , i'm a GW fan since ages ago ... but stil cant afford to pay that much cause i aint in US nor EU , and it's pretty much expensive for us to pay 150$ .. anyways am going for DIGITAL DELUXE which i'm satisfied with .

Funny how everybody is fixated on the price of the CE and nobody except 1 or 2 persons noticed the important part: any pre-purchase (not only CE) will give you access to EVERY BETA. I don't care about statues or books, and good for those who do. But I want to play this game and I'm sure I'm not the only one. So focus on what you like, not what you hate :)

@Unfallen_Satan Are you mad? the US has some of the lowest quality products. not as bad as the british, but close. if im correct its made in china like my Aion Figure. And that thing was hit with a bat accidently. its stil in perfect condition, not a mark on it.

TrueProphecy22

Hm.. that's a pretty nice collection. But almost 100$ over the game's retail price? I guess I don't really have any idea how much game statues and art books are worth, as I don't buy them, but that seems a little steep.

@ea_goodandy : No, it;s not the same. Digital Deluxe means download, I want the product in my hand with the box.

For some reason they state that ArenaNet didn't detail the contents of the Digital Deluxe edition. Um, it's on the site what's in it.

@DarthLod They have that with the digital deluxe version.

I'd prefer to have an 80 dollar version with just the in game stuff. Not interested in paying 150 dollars for one game when I can get two for that price, with money for a meal after. Just not worth it at all. I am about fed up with C.E's anyway.

I really, really want to get the CE GW2, but what's with the latest fad involving figurines? What am I going to do with a 10-in figurine that's likely Made in China or some other cheap labor country anyway? What are we, ten year olds? And since when did the Charr become the defining race of GW2? I mean the Charr plush is good, but I would enjoy a Norn or Asura statuette much more. Because this is GW 2, I'll consider it, even at $150, even though I don't even like the Charr. I hope the official GW 2 forums open up soon, so I can ask ANet where the items are made. I'll get it if they're made in the USA or a country known for its high quality goods.

Too bad that none of the digital items are permanent like the weapons in Guild Wars CE.

Never understood CE, artwork is cool, won't care after the first viewing, music is cool, might listen to them occasionally, the figure though...if you display it you'll never bring girls over...and if you do and they don't leave right away you can assume they have the same statue....
