Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) organizers today announced the recipients for two of its Special Awards to be handed out next month during the 14th annual awards show.

The Ambassador Award, which honors an individual who helps video games "advance to a better place" through advocacy, will go to Feminist Frequency creator Anita Sarkeesian. Her Kickstater-funded video series Tropes vs. Women in Video Games tackled the representation of women in entertainment fields, primarily video games.

Meanwhile, League of Legends developer Riot Games founders Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill will take home a Pioneer Award at the awards show. The Pioneer Award honors "breakthrough tech and gameplay design milestone," and with 27 million daily players, it's safe to say League of Legends has been a major force in the industry.

GDCA organizers also announced today that the creative team behind the Hey Ash Whatcha Playin'? video series will create videos for the awards show. This is in addition to programming from sketch comedy group Mega64.

This year's GDCA will take place on Wednesday, March 19 at 6:30 pm at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The event is open to all attendees and GameSpot will carry a live-stream. The awards show will be hosted by Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment community manager Abbie Heppe.

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us and Gone Home lead GDCA nominations, while The Stanley Parable and Don't Starve are up for the Independent Games Festival Awards top prize.
