Crystal White PlayStation Vita available now on Amazon for $200

Color configuration was previously available only as part of Assassin's Creed III bundle.

A Crystal White PlayStation Vita model is currently available on Amazon for $200. The color is not technically "new," but that version was previously available only as part of the Assassin's Creed III: Liberation bundle in North America, though it was released as a stand-alone in Japan.

It should be noted that $200 for the Crystal White PS Vita is not the best deal you can find. GameStop is currently selling the Assassin's Creed III: Liberation bundle, which includes the system and a copy of the game for $200.

The Crystal White PS Vita currently available through Amazon is the original model, featuring a 5-inch OLED screen instead of the 5-inch LCD screen included as part of the newer units. It's not clear if Sony plans to make the white PS Vita more widely available in North America.

Earlier this week at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, Sony announced new functionality in the pipeline for the PS Vita. Owners will eventually be able to stream games to their systems through Sony's new PlayStation Now service, which will let you rent games individually or as part of a Netflix-like subscription package.

Crystal white? Seriously?? Crystals are transparent, and that looks nothing like crystal.

@cameron by support you mean "oh goody I can switch my PS3 on with my vita & it has 0.05% of games that can utilise remote play" .... In my book that's none existent! You don't work for sony so stop promoting a function that pretty much doesn't exist!!

vita does support ps3 remote play, but there are very few games that actually have it. tokyo jungle is one that does, for example

It's crap there is No PS3 remote play, are you working for sony! Yes there's a ton of games , the majority Are ports, some indie, but very few good games made specifically for the bloody vita & nothing on the horizon!

There is a lot of games for the Vita. I personally have 18 games and with PS+ my libary is constantly growing. I use it just as much as my 3DS. Plus it has support with the PS3 and PS4 to play away from your TV. Worth picking up a used one at a pawn shop for 120-150 bucks for sure.

Don't waste your money there are relatively little decent games made specifically for it - there are lots of ports though!!

As much as it's nice, I've already got a default black one, and prefer it.

It'd probably sell more units if Sony Computer Entertainment worked with Sony Ericsson collaborated to make a PSVITA model that doubles as a cellphone. :x

Yeah, but it's not the new slim model which is AWESOME!  I just picked one up in Japan and they feel FANTASTIC.  Lighter, more comfortable, more battery life.  The screen may not be quite as good, but it's hardly noticable unless you have them side-by-side.

I <3 my black PS Vita. I always get black consoles.

Ew, hand grease here we come.

If you want to do anything Sony, make the damn things bigger so there is something to hold onto. Then I will consider trading mine in for a new one.

That idea has already happened before. It was called the nokia n-gage, and look how successful that was.

@Dannystaples14 It might kill the whole "comfortably portable" aspect if you increase the size further. It's already larger than a 3DS by volume and it only has the one screen.

@blackace I don't want a Vita now, but I don't want to buy it in the future with LCD screen... :(

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@horizonwriter Yeah but right now I get quite bad hand cramp and it isn't like I have massive hands. Especially for bumper heavy games. Something like Need for Speed was pure agony after a while. Killzone Shadowfall worked better but that is only because you don't need to hold the trigger in for as long.

I can't imagine playing a full PS4 title on remote play or something would be particularly awesome comfort wise at the moment either.

I don't mean make it with massive handles or something but there must be some way of making the sides of this thing slightly chunkier to allow you to hold it better.

I mean you can buy grips and stuff but most them make the sleek Vita look like crap.

Raeldor

@meatz666 @blackace I have the new Vita (I bought it in Japan over Christmas), and I can tell you it's AWESOME.  It's looks and feels beautiful, and is much more comfortable to play and has better battery life and you can charge from any USB source.  The screen may not be QUITE as good, but the color difference is hardly noticable unless you have them side-by-side, and it actually looks a lot clearer in a lot of cases.  Don't judge until you've tried! :)

Dannystaples14

@horizonwriter Yeah or something like make those little oval bits on the underside stick out rather than in and it would give just a slight groove for your fingers to grip. Now it feels a bit like my fingers are sliding off of the thing unless I ram my fingers under the base.

I'd say at this point that using the triggers, sticks and back touch pad in the same game is borderline impossible. Not in any meaningful or particularly skillful way. Like something as simple as double tapping it to sprint in Killzone is pretty tricky to do with any precision.

horizonwriter
horizonwriter

@Dannystaples14 @horizonwriter Yeah, its a tough balance to strike and I'm glad I'm not the one who has to keep it. maybe an extra quarter or fifth of an inch more on both sides and some adjustments to the grip indentations on the underside along with the shoulder buttons...
