If you've played yoshi's island you know what to expect. The control is tight with several options to play. I stuck with the classic configuration myself. All is tight and responsive. The dual screens are utilized nicely, nothing too innovative going on here. A zooming playfield would've been a nice feature and an easy fix to the so called "dead zone" between the screens. The game gets more difficult as it goes along but never approaches any real challenge. Levels in the game are the usual platformer assortment. Unfortunately, this game doesn't seem to include the amount of devices (mole drill, helicopter, dogs) as the previous one. To its credit, it has plenty of devices and some unique to it. The continued trend of handing out lives like candy continues. At one point I mustered over 140 lives and I could've had many more if I didn't make attempts at finding secrets. This game is longer than the snes title as well.

The graphics are an evolution of the snes title. The crayola look has been toned down. Sometimes this subtracts from the game's personality but it allows for improved character designs and variety. A good thing for a game that has nothing really new...

Sound is very good. Classic yoshi's island sound effects plus the other effects that yoshi has collected over time. The music is fitting for the levels. I prefer the previous titles musical style but the is on par with that.

In closing, if you enjoy platformers, especially the original yoshi's island, check this one out. Its a great game and possibly a future classic but this series is in need of serious innovation.
