ITS LIKE MW3 BUT WITH TANKS!

User Rating: 10 | World of Tanks PC
What did I think of it?

When I first started playing, I didn't get the concept of the game, I just went straight into action and was shot by a dozen guys. The outcome wasn't good. After playing more and more games, I began to realize that strategy, teamwork and skill proved vital in the game. It is unbelievable how WoT can be related to 2 completely different games; Chess and MW3, whilst having way more fun than chess and getting less owned than in MW3. At the beginning I also thought "Oh well thats stupid, every tank will be the same". And again, I started to realise that every tank is unique, that you need a different style of play with every single tank, to become a pro. The graphics of the game is very realistic, with no glitches that I have come across throughout the 3 months that I have been playing the game. Realism is the key to this game, which I thought made the game much more interesting to play, knowing that these tanks existed and are designed exactly the way they used to have in the mid 1900s. The community in WoT is also one of the best that I have seen in the online world. They do not put you down if you do not get any kills, but they will if you kill your own team mate.

Whats the rules?

To start off, I will explain how World of Tanks works (the winning and losing conditions). Each team has 15 players, with the tier of the tanks being equal to each other e.g. if one team has four tier3 tanks, so will the other, making the game balanced. WoT offers many maps that are square in shape ranging from deserts, cities, grassland, etc. Each map contains 2 flags. One flag is yours and the other is your enemies'. To win you must simply capture the enemy flag or kill all 15 players in the opposing team. Since each game is limited to 15mins (timer), one team must win or the game will become a draw, thus allowing you to play several games in 1hour.

How can I upgrade my tank?

After each game you play, you will awarded with silver, experience and free experience depending on how well you did the battle. You can use this experience to unlock special weapons , engines, tracks and armour, that the tank that you are using contains and the next tier tank which your tank leads up to (really confusing, you need to see for yourself to really understand it). As you keep advancing your tank tier lvl, a lot more experience is needed as well as silver to purchase the new tank and the upgrades that come with it (must research upgrades first).

What kind of tanks are there?

WoT offers many types of tanks that are all unique and need to be played differently to get the best possible outcome of the game. These tank types represent 4 different countries; USSR, Germany, America and France. All the nations have somewhat the same amount of the tanks listed below (except France, as the WoT crew has just began work on it). The following list is the aspects of the different types of tanks that WoT offers:

Light Tanks: Agile and quick, but is vulnerable when being shot down by other players.
Medium Tanks: All round tanks, which have average speed, fire power and armour in the game.
Heavy Tanks: High HP and durability, with the same fire power of the MTanks, but are horrifically slow.
Tanks Destroyers: Thick frontal armour, ricochets bullets a lot, has a bonus when camouflaged in bushes and forests and they also come with a massive gun, better than the L, M and HTanks. The downside however is that it can easily be destroyed by SPGs or any tank that can get behind it, as it has poor back armour.
SPG: Best firepower in the game, which shoots upwards in a parabolic shape. Has the worst armour and HP in the game.

Sometimes however, this won't make sense, as there are HTanks that are capable of matching some LTanks, such as the IS7 with a top speed of 50km/h. Same goes with the other types of tanks except the SPG, which does not evolve quite as well as the other 4.

How much internet does it take?

As WoT includes great graphics and 30 players in each game, it may allude to you thinking that it drinks up all the internet you have in a couple of hours. If you think that is the fact, then you are WRONG! This is yet another great thing about this game. Each game takes only 1-2mb! and if you play continuously the figures somehow decreases to 30-50mb per 3-4hours! Thats 10mb EVERY HOUR! For example Heroes of Newerth takes a whopping 100mb per hour! That is 10 times more than WoT. (I have checked the usage of WoT via a portable WiFi connection and to be honest I couldn't believe it!) However, the downside to this is that you must download the game, which will take approx. 3gb which is reasonable as every free multiplayer game requires you to download some sort of patch.

What you need to know.

Great game, for people who like to have fun with your friends or good strategists (that play Civ5, Total War, etc, will like the game), more than 100 unique tanks, great community, takes little internet and a win-win game at the end of the day!
