Easily the best multi-player game on Atari

Warlords is a hard game to classify.....

Ok, maybe it's not. It's a mix of a Breakout or Arkanoid type game and.....something else, maybe a competetive shooter or RTS? Anyway, it was really very, very entertaining. Even a single player match was pretty entertaining. The screen was setup with four "bases" or "castles" in each corner of the screen. Each base was surrounded by a wall of bricks that could be destroyed by hitting the ball into them. You could deflect, or catch the ball and then redirect it at the enemy wall. Once the enemy wall took enough damage you had a chance to destroy the castle. This was accomplished by getting the ball through the enemies defenses and breaking down the enemies base. Once the base was gone, you won. There were also multiplayer games where you would control two corners and had to destroy the enemies two bases. This is where the game really got fun. No other game I remember on Atari has such a competitive multiplayer portion where skill actually had an impact on the outcome of the game.

A very enjoyable, and fun retro game that, IMO, is WAY undervalued and underappreciated. Sadly, if it hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves by now, it probably never will.
