The new standard for RTS games has landed!

Dawn of War 2 is a sequel to the original DoW which i did not get around to playing. DoW 2 i feel does not require you to play the original as it pretty much feels like a standalone title which gently breaks you into the mechanics of the game itself which i think is a commendable trait.

The gameplay is nice and gentle to begin with and then allows more accustomed gamers to tweak characters to whatever level they desire. The usual things apply here in terms of your squad members, you most probably want someone to be healer and others with defensive/offensive traits. The levels are progressive and you gain in-game days with missions and optional missions at later stages. The controls (ie. mouse and keyboard setup) are best suited to a PC as with most RTS titles. I felt there was a good sense of satisfaction on completion of some of the more challenging missions. Personally, i had to re-play a few of the more difficult missions but the missions never felt impossible and could be completed with the right strategy.

The graphics in the game are just right in the sense that a mid-range PC should be able to cope. However, more high-end rigs would most likely serve to give the game a better touch.

The whole game took me over 25hrs to complete and i felt happy that i completed the game from the start. Bear in mind that the game runs off Steam so i take it that you need to be online in order for it to log in.

Overall, a solid title that any RTS fan should take the time to play especially at the reduced price due to the title being a few years old now.
