Feedbackula - Steam Sale Sourness

The Autumn Steam Sale is now on, and surprisingly not everybody is happy about it. Johnny stops browsing for cheap games for a minute to sift through the comments.

Bought my first steam game over the weekend. Got Metro Last light for $14. So far, enjoying the game. It was a great deal considering the game is currently selling for $49.99 on console.

The worst thing people don't notice - based games are Ok cheap (not very cheap), but DLCs make the whole bundle much more expensive.

Am I just too cynical or are games getting worse every year? I can't find many games worth playing anymore. The Steam sale would be a lot better if there was games I wanted to buy. =(

I love it when the Steam sales go live and I love it when they end. I just can't pass on a good deal, but that means spending around $50 for games I wasn't initially planning to spend. Oh well, first world problems I guess.

It's a great sale. So some douchebags are envious and want to hide it by attempting to find something wrong with it, or just bring your gaming cred into question. I don't care what they think.

Also the "you don't own it" argument is meaningless. You own the disk they used to get the game to you. I have an Internet connection and own the hard drive the game is installed on. Neither delivery system affords more consumer rights.

And once Steam implements member to member game selling there will be no advantage at all to buying physical disks.

The green screen part was brilliant, Its cold and grey outside In London today but this made me smile so much.

Hilarious way to showcase some of the arguments to which there Is no right or wrong, just personal choice. Also, Steam sales are great and there Is no reason to go overboard with the purchases, after all the same games will be on sale again at some point.

"I can touch my games" was the best line ever! And I think I agree with them... I miss the good ol' big game boxes

@macaque12 I think the PS2/XBOX/Gamecube/Wii/PC cases are the best. they allow for enough room to get a good amount of boxart on them without cramming it full of logos and infringing on the art's space like with PS3/4 and 360/XBO cases. Special mention goes to the N64 boxes, a giant "F you, we're different", and the original PlayStation CD cases that were illogically thick.

People who keeps saying that "steam sales are the best and will destroy console games forever!" are like those people who buys an Iphone 3 since its cheaper, and then brags about it to either those who bought it full price years ago, or to those who owns an Iphone 5. You know what? Nobody cares!

Bragging about how cheap you got a game that was made a couple of years ago doesn't make sense. It's cheap because it's an old title, regardless if you haven't played it yet.
If Steam sells AC4 for even at least $10 now (not next year or so) - then that would be the only time it merits a game changer.

Yeah man some people just can't evolve with the times, I've played so many games legally due to Steam that It doesn't bother me even if they "own" the game I payed for. By the time the Steamapocalypse comes and we can't play any of our games I might simply not give a crap about playing games anymore.

I first began using Steam when Half-Life 2 was launched, I remember how much I hated it. Ugh, I remember how many server errors occurred and how I couldn't play HL2 because Steam wouldn't connect to the servers haha.

Great show Johnny, and wonderful acting although I have to admit I spent most of the episode trying to figure out what the hell was on your t-shirt...something with crucifixes and stakes, but what exactly? The mysteries of Feedbackula...

I have two overwhelming feelings about Steam. First, that one would be a damn fool to buy ANYTHING at full price, unless it's a new title that one simply must have. The second occurs during sales when that game you've had your eye one for some time get's some big chunk off its price and you think "Damn, I'd be a fool NOT to buy this!" I did that with Skyrim when it was relatively new and paid £23-ish and then didn't install for over a year by which time I could have snapped it up for a fraction of that.

But on the whole I'm very appreciative because I know my Steam library is worth about 4 times what I paid for it and I've enjoyed so many games I would never have thought to buy or even heard of without the sales. Valve marketing department, kudos!

@RuthlessRich I bought Skyrim on launch day. Didn't quite turn out to be the game I had expected but I don't regret it. It's all about how much you want to play the game that decides whether it's worth it to pay full price

I loved this episode overall, but I do want to point something out regarding the "negative" comments: most of those are more being humorously overdramatic, and aren't actually disgruntled about the sale. Sometime's it's fun to pretend that steam is the evil overlord that forces us to give it our money through insanely good sales :P

@joe_b1_kenobi My point is, you're not fooling anyone with your scary ninja avatar and trendy 90's lingo. You're clearly just another fat console slob whose giant ass is indistinguishable from his couch and has to be airlifted to his insulin shots with a massive crane. Hike up your pant-leg for me :]

@maniacalpoet @stev69 Wrong. Valve clearly stated that at any time they come to close their Steam service they 'Will provide users with another mean to have access to their games library'.

On Steam, you actually OWN what you buy, it is not a rental system.

@maniacalpoet @stev69 Steam? Bankrupt? Bethesda is the one putting their game on sale, and I doubt they are in any danger of going bankrupt. Also: Who cares? A sale is a sale and Steam has been doing them for almost a decade. Seriously. Who complains about cheap games. Come on.

Yeah I mean it would be much better to buy Skyrim for 60 dollars then sell it for 45 dollars, with a net loss of 15 dollars. Than just buy it for 7 bucks. I guess elegantspock needs to stop touching himself with his boxart and learn mathematics.
