Total War: Shogun 2-Fall of the Samurai is a highly addictive and generally well-rounded game. The game is set in a very interesting time in Japan's history, the conflict brought to Japan by the Westerners during the late 1800s makes for a very different Total War experience. For starters get ready for a fast paced DLC, I mean very fast. Sure you can go with the long campaign, or domination campaign, to lengthen your play time in this amazing setting. But otherwise the game goes by quickly, with back to back battles, and strategy movements. The late 1800s calls for some amazing new developments in the Total War series. For example the navy can now deal bombard an on-going battle if the ship is in range, and if timed perfectly, it can deal the final blow. Ships have upgraded in general, with more steam-powered ships, and the innovation of the torpedo. On land the units have taken to the 19th century feel, with new rifles and equipment, which gives the fighting experience a "gritty" feeling. However if you are more traditional, and choose to side with the Samurai, there are still plenty of cool units from Shogun 2. The small things like the skill tree for generals, agents, naval bombardments, Gatling gun, and the option to fire any canon or gatling gun in first person, makes the game even cooler. Bottom line is this game looks amazing and keeps true to the overall feeling of the late 1800s. The advent of Western guns and ships adds to the chaos of battles, especially ones that include Gatling guns, canons, and naval bombardments. The game also gives the player a very good setting. The Westerners have come and now you must choose to side with the Shogun and the Samurai, or fight for the Emperor with the help of the Western powers. The Boshin War awaits.
