Hulks back with no Banner!

User Rating: 9 | The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction PS2
The Hulk is basically an engine of destruction. This is the first Hulk game that gives a feeling of his power, the story is pretty basic, but it is executed very well. Bruce Banner AKA the Hulk has been driven out of peaceful home in the badlands (the desert) by the army, destroying his machine to get rid of the Hulk in the process, Bruce then turns to his only friend, Doctor Samson, who agrees to help him get rid of his curse. To do this Samson implants mission objectives into Hulks brain and he carries them out, you will encounter the army many times in many different forms, they start with basic soldiers and eventually move up to towering Titans that dwarf even the Hulk.

An upside this game has to the previous Hulk game is that there are no Bruce Banner stealth parts; you get to be the Hulk while Banner is banished to cut scenes. Also Hulk has a great move list and there is a interesting feature called weaponisation, its basically taking ordinary objects such as a lamppost and using it as a club, or taking a car and turning into a pair of steel boxing gloves to increase damage, there are many things you can do and it really makes you feel Hulks power when you use his devastation attacks, these are the Hulks most powerful moves which can only be pulled of when you are in 'critical mass' which is were Hulk is overloaded with energy. Another interesting feature of this game is comic books; these are found in random places around the city and the badlands and can unlock simple cheats to alternate costumes; you can unlock cheats such as double Hulk damage, which basically means Hulk does double damage, alternate costumes range from changing Hulks shorts to flags of the world, to changing the Hulk completely.

The areas in Ultimate Destruction are relatively big. You have the city, and the badlands (a desert like terrain) the best way to get around in the game is jumping, due to the Hulks enormous leg muscles Hulk can jump hundreds of metres in a single bound, the jumping system works well, while on the ground you can hold down X to charge the jump and when you let go Hulk jumps, the longer you hold the further/higher he jumps, while in the air hold down the X button again and when Hulk hits the ground release the button and he will jump again, easy and effective.

All in all this game will have you playing until completion and then there's always the unlockables and alternative difficulty settings to keep you going, worth a purchase and is an amusing game to play.
