An immersive and historical Civil War shooter that is worth a try.

I came upon this game in my local BB store and thought I would try it since I own the first game "A Nation Divided" from Activision released a few years back.

First of all you don't need the DVD in the drive to play which is conforting especially since most PC games these days are online activited or require the DVD in the drive to play which is a pain.

Secondly, there are several improvements to the game play from the original. The graphics have clearly improved and if set to maximum detail the game looks extremely good. The audio has improved as well. Weapons sound more authenic as well as the voice acting in the game.

Secret Missions is about historical secret missions during the Civil War in which the player fight's for the North and South. I have only played the South so far but with charactors like "Stonewall Jackson" giving you orders I feel a since of loyality and immersion in the game.

The game is still very linear in that you have a set path to follow to your objective but there are secondary objectives you can accomplish or not. It all depends on you. Some of these missions include taking out watch towers with a cannon or shooting a Gatling Gun to eliminate enemy soldiers.

The graphical details add to the game as well. There are lush green forests, clear crisp streams and beautiful sky's to boot. The weapons like the Henry Repeating Rifle, Colt Revolver and Springfield issued guns sound authenic.

Overall, if you have a interest in the Civil War period and want a PC game that gives you that immersion give Secret Missions a try. With a bargin price of $19 you can't go wrong here. Even though there is no multiplayer to speak of it's worth a try at single player for this price.
