A great, varied, and brutal classic.

It really is a great game - I've played it more than 15 years ago (OH GOD, I REALLY AM OLD) as a kid on a Pegasus console (NES knockoff, from China I believe... on the other hand, maybe it was Sega Mega Drive?).

As other reviewers said - the game is also incredibly difficult and doesn't feature a save system. The game world is huge. You can only carry three items at a time. It seems that developers wanted to punish players in every way possible. There are incredibly frustrating parts (the barrel ride down the river... the horror, the horror...).

I don't know how many times I tried to beat it or how much time I've spent at it, but I'm sure it was well above 100 hours. I remember a giant paper map of the game world that I drew, because there was no way to remember everything. I remember the rush of adrenaline when I finally completed it and the lame 'the end' screen - and that was everything I've got, no outro, not even a "YOU ARE REALLY A BADASS!!!!1" message.

But hey, it really was a great game.
