This game is forgotten, and it earned it.

User Rating: 3 | The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy NES
It's part 2-D role-playing game, part adventure game. Problem is: It's hard and you can't save.

Story: Dizzy is an egg who lives in a tree house, and his girlfriend was kidnapped by the evil wizard zaks. So now he's off to rescue her...

Gameplay: ...Which can only be done by completing every single sidequest in the game. This game is a puzzle game and an item trading game. You start out with no items and can hold up to three, and every item had exactly one use. What's the use? The game provides hints for some and tells you about others. There are about 40-50 items in the

game, all of which (Except for a couple) are needed to beat the game. If you knew what to do with the items it'd be more fun, and trekking across the world to get the item you didn't know you would need is never fun. Especially since there's no save feature, you start with three lives and can gain up to seven, but if you die you must restart the entire game, all several hours' worth. And the game is hard, really hard. You can't attack the various enemies in the game, or the instant death traps. So dying and losing is almost certain to happen. No wonder this game never had a sequel. No wait, it was the tenth in the series.

Characters: Dizzy the hero, Zaks the wizard, Daisy the damsel in distress, Dora the girl turned into a toad, Old Dizzy the grandpa, etc. All heroes have names that start with D and are eggs, except for the good wizard who despite being more powerful then you only will give you extra lives if you're good enough at puzzles. There are also several enemies, from dinosaurs and dragons to spiders, ants and bats, all of which can hurt you and only some of which can be beaten. The others have to carefully be avoided or you lose some of your small health meter.

Items/Weapons/Power-Ups: About 50, from the plant poison to the chicken to Old Dizzy's medicine. Each must be out someplace special in order to work. There are also 99 stars scattered around, and apparently you cannot enter the castle until you find them all.

Unlockables: More items. YAY!

Strategy: Memorize where the items go or keep a handy guide. And watch out for the plentiful ways to die instantly, some of which you must traverse past multiple times.

Difficulty: Hard. See why above.

Technical Details: Graphics are usually good except that the screen never scrolls up, it just switches to the next screen. That makes a few jumps exceedingly tiring. The game changing from day to night would be a nice touch if it wasn't so hard to see at night. The sound effects are very basic, and the music starts out entertaining but gets old after several hours of non-stop listening.

Multiplayer: None.

Replay Value: After you beat the game there's no reason to go back unless you want to do it all over again.

Final score breakdown:

Gameplay: 3/10
Graphics: 3/10
Sounds and Music: 5/10
Fun: 3/10
Replay Value: 2/10

Pros:

Great game idea
Plenty of Characters
Story is never in the way

Cons:

No save system
Punishing difficulty
No way to attack enemies
No save system
Trial and error works better when you don't have to completely restart the game
Many items are just too difficult to get
No save system

Overall: 3.2/10 Add in a save system to raise the value by four or five points, and fix the camera for another one. The music could be better as well. This game is best best left ignored and forgotten, like it already is.
