This my good people is the greatest game ever made, bar none. Here is why:

Disappointed in the gaming industry lately? Feeling like the trend of making games "accessible" is actually the trend of erasing any cognitive function that might have been required on your part? Well, you have come to the right place my friend. Morrowind is exactly the opposite of the scourge that is "accessibility".

So you start off as a prisoner, you have been sent by boat to Morrowind, a province of Vardenfell at the emperors request. You climb up unto the deck and you are immediately struck with a sensation of joy as you marvel at the world you are about to explore. Actually i dont think explore is sufficient enough to describe what you will end up doing. Maybe MEGAEXPLOREDELUXE. Yes, you can go anywhere, at anytime. And as for the incentive for doing so? This game puts a new (or old) meaning into rewarding exploration. You can practically find amazing unique items in any dungeon, cave or house, which only ends up wetting your toungue for more exploration to find the "even better armor", or the "even better weapon". And there are enormous amounts of clothing, armor and weapons.

There are very diverse areas with incredible amounts of sights to see and the world truly feels magical and special. Also there are almost no limitations on what you can do or how powerful you can become. For example, leveling up magic can let you create spells where you could literally jump 10 000 feet up in the air or jump across the entire world. (which is huge)
Or you can levitate and walk straight over cities and reach all those high places. Or you can level up athletics and acrobatics and watch yourself zooming through villages at lightning speed and jumping over peoples head as they marvel at your prowess.

As for the main quest line, trust me it is epic to say the least and you will have to actually use your brain to complete it. You will slowly but surely crawl your way towards fulfilling a prophecy and put an end to an ancient threat. I dont want to spoil anything else but it is very engaging. On top of this there are a lot of other side-quests and quest lines from different factions and great-houses (sort of like factions) and it is impossible to complete them all in one playthrough, literally. Your tool for tracking quests and hints for completing them is in your journal which is actually a journal. It is a system I found very engaging and immersing, unlike more recent entries in the series where you have a magical compass with an arrow that points you to the exact location or item you need.(Come on, really Bethesda?) There is also no fast travel except for Silt Striders, (They are awesome) boats and mage teleportation.

But, and there is always a but. The combat didnt age so well and is not the "if you see it hit it will hit type" but rather the game uses your skill in that weapon type to calculate your chances of hitting the target. I personally didnt find this detracting from the experience but actually made me feel that my skills were more important for winning the fight and not just wailing on the enemy until he was dead. I believe there is a mod btw that makes the combat like Oblivion or Skyrim if it should be a problem.

So not the most indepth review, but trust me, do yourself a favor, get the GOTY version and i can guarantee that if you like rpgs you WILL LOVE this game. Also there is a mod that came out not too long ago that will bring the graphics up to date, i highly recommend this as it makes the game look just beautiful. So, i do hope you will try it out and enjoy Morrowind as much as I have.
