Test Drive Unlimited 2 only offers little to differentiate itself from the original, and so isn't worth the buy

As many might know, Test Drive Unlimited was one of those over-hyped games which was meant to revolutionize racing games by offering a much more realistic gameplay experience. However, the game just dropped you off in an island which you roamed about in, with no sort of linearity or proper career mode to enjoy, making it worthless. As far as I know, despire the hype, I don't think it sold that well but it was a decent game if you're one of those gamers who like a large scale world to explore with a range of expensive motors.

Now comes the sequel. I expected a lot more from Namco and Eden but I was left disappointed. The devs did respond to some issues found in TDU, and did fix it well in TDU2, but the game still lacked many things.

I will first explain the positives of the game. Now the game has an actual career mode, making it worth travelling across the large map (which is now meant to be twice as big as the original).

There is a huge roster of flashy cars by the top brands. Each car feels different and this introduces a balance to the game, making every drive feel unique (although sometimes the vehicle handling can be on the dodgy side. Only sometimes.) and graphically the world and cars look polished and glossy as they should be.

The online experience serves as a huge support for this game. Without the online mode there is just no point in even considering to purchase this game. It's actually quite amazing to whizz past other users and show of your rides. Although the online community is rather small at the moment, as more and more buy the game, I'm sure the community will expand too.

Now to the negatives. There are few visual hiccups here and there but none of it prevent you from playing the game but really, they shouldn't be there.

The career is meant to be long, but I find most the objectives rather tedious and repetitive. I'd very much appreciate it if somehow the devs could release patches that would add some more interesting goals to liven up the experience.

The world still feels dead although big. Pedestrians and more cars would make it better cause nothing is more fun than crashing into stuff.

Like I said, TDU2 brings nothing new to the tables. It repeats TDU formula and offers a long but boring campaign mode. Yes, it is better than no campaign but I didn't pay the steep price of 50 dollars for just driving around an enormous island (or two to be exact). If you haven't played the original, then maybe I'd recommend TDU2, but only when it has a massive price cut.
