Even after 10 years, Tekken 3 is one of the best fighting games of all time.

By the time 1997 hit, 3D fighting games were on the rise. Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Soul Blade, Dead or Alive, you name it. While 2D fanboys were too busy playing the Street Fighter III: What took so long – uh, I mean The New Generation. Tekken 3 and Virtua Fighter 3 were both released in arcades in 1997. Virtua Fighter 3 didn’t see release on the Saturn as Sega was beginning to think about created a new console (Dreamcast). So Tekken 3 really stood out when it was released on the PlayStation in 1998. Almost ten years later, this game is still great.

Tekken 3 adds two new modes. A beat em up called Tekken Force which is kind of fun but its short and a volleyball mini game called Tekken ball. Both of these modes unlock a character that wasn’t in the arcade version (Gon and Dr. Bosconovtich), but there useless characters so it doesn’t matter that much.

Tekken 3 now allows you to sidestep, gets rid of the annoying floating jumping thing. New moves are added. Tekken 3 gets rid of many of Tekken 2s characters, but they’ve been replaced gameplay wise. Michelle has been replaced by Julia, Kazuya has been replaced by Jin, Bruce has been replaced by Bryan, etc. The boss character Ogre features many off the Tekken 2 characters moves.

Tekken 3 is also one of the best looking games on the PlayStation, and has a great soundtrack. Just an amazing game all around.
