Well, what this is what fans have been waiting for. After playing the masterpiece that was Tales of Symphonia, fans probably wanted a handheld tales game and they got what they wished for. Except they didnt wish for the game to be good. Tales of Phantasia has some major problems that needed to be delt with. To start of the game does have the usual alright RPG plot, unfortunetly i sold this game before i could really get into the plot, so, using some information i decided its about a powerful amulet that has fallen into the wrong hands and its up to you to get it back. Ok, it may not be all the original but its better than most plots. And the graphics are pretty good, this isnt one of those games where they are trying to make the sprites look like 3d, and they really bring out the GBAs power. Now onto the bad parts of the game. The gameplay is just dreadful. The battle system is extremly slow, if you have played almost any other tales game this will seem way to slow to even play, next there are some problems with the plot that i forgot to mention. The game lacks the abillity to point you in the right direction. You may find yourself wandering the world far too much before you actually find out where your supposed to go. Next, the sound makes me just want to cry, music is pretty bad and also slow pased, and i must add that they have voices in this game. Thats right voices, but the voices seem to only have two diffrent voices, a girl voice and a guy voice that dont even come close to matching up with their characters. And for people new to RPGs, you have to go out and train a lot before you can go into a new place to fight, monsters are very hard if you dont train. The conrtols are also confusing, from the time i bought it and the time i sold it, i still never really learned how to block, it is also filled with useless commands like target. I would rather have a block button than a target button. Overall Tales of Phantasia is a great game if you only care about graphics, otherwise it is a slow game that just takes a sh!t on its SNES version or just makes the SNES version look like a piece of sh!t.
