Tales of Phantasia PSX slightly improves from the SNES version

User Rating: 8.5 | Tales of Phantasia PS
-STORY-
Tales of phantasia places you as cless (cress in the japanese version) an average hunter who has a partner named chester to help him out. They lead normal lives but one day the village gets attacked while chester and cless are hunting. When they come back they see their village in in distraught and cless starts to discover his past and eventualy tries to save the world through past, present and future.

-GAMEPLAY-
Like most of the older tales games you are placed on a 2-D environment and it's all played in real time, as you progress through the game and level up you learn new skills which u can use against you enemies and perform combos. If im honest i prefered the SNES version's battle system i felt it ran more smoothly and faster. Still it is fun and at least you will not be bored during a battle, you always have something to do.

-GRAPHICS-
Although improved from the SNES version i still feel that it felt abit dated. The graphics are nothing special, but some of the 2-D sprites do look pretty.

-MUSIC-
The music within Phantasia is very catchy and you will find yourself humming along sooner or later. It didn't stand out much however. But it kept me pleased and i also love the opening song to the japanese opening.

-EXTRAS-
Tales Of Phantasia is a remake of the SNES version and of course Namco included extras to make it a worthwhile buy. Of course there is revamped graphics but there is extra skills, a full anime opening sequence, new sidequests, also a new playable character.

-OVERALL-
I think this game really did help bring back what was a classic but now there is a PSP version there isn't much point in this purchase. Still phantasia is a good first entry into the tales series and does the series proud.
