Too bad it wasn't released in the US and Europe, cause it freaking ROCKS!
The game starts with Cless’ hometown being destroyed by an army. The man behind this is called Daos and is an evil sorcerer. He tries to conquer the whole world and it’s Cless’ task to put an end to this.
Tales of Phantasia really plays like a classic RPG. You stray from town to town meeting new people and buying new items and weapons. The battle gameplay however is a bit different. When you’re being attacked the game switches to a 2D area. You control only Cless and the other characters are controlled by AI. It’s a little getting used to but eventually it plays great!.
There are few games with graphics like these. They really are stunning! The awesome looking environments combined with the manga style of the characters made me give this game a 10 for the graphics. The sound also is superb. Like in many RPG’s the music plays a big part in setting the atmosphere but the SFX do great too.
Tales of Phantasia is one of the best RPG’s I’ve played and still is one of my favorites! Got you interested? Good, now go get this one!
