I'll be the first to admit that I am not a huge RPG fan outside of the Elder Scrolls and Fable I really don't engage in the genre a whole lot. But Tales Of Destiny really made me take a closer look and re-evaluate my previous beliefs.

This is an overall great japanese import RPG. Is it Final Fantasy 7 good? No. But then again what is. Is it a 4.3? Definitely not. Given the rarity of the game on this side of the Atlantic and the real time combat which most RPG's missed the mark. All this turn based combat feels slow compared to what Tales Of Destiny does.

The story is deep and moving to the point that your emotions will get played with and you will actually feel betrayed and hurt at some points. You play as Stahn who takes on the generic RPG main character plot line: a small town farm boy who takes on a quest after the ship he is hidden on is invaded by monsters and his small village is wiped clean. One of the most unique parts of the game are the "Swordians." These sacred weapons are essentially human in the sense they hold the power of past war heros who each have a different elemental ability. They play a huge part in the main plot but unfortuantely you only get the use of 3 or 4 due to the constant betrayal and evil overuse of the Swordian power. Heres a basic rundown of the swordians:

Dymlos- Stahns Sword, fire elemental, high attack and strong spells
Atwight- Rutees Sword, ice/water elemental, focuses more on healing than damage
Chaltier- Leons Sword, earth elemental, well rounded weapon, unfortunately you only get use of Leon for part of the game.
Clemente- Philias Sword, various elements, hands down the strongest spell sword in the game.
Igtenos- Garrs Sword, wind elemental, only get use of it for part of the game due to a boss abusing the power
Berselius- Final Boss, I believe is somewhat of a telekinetic sort of idea but its never really specified. Never get the use of it.

The 5 swordians that you get the use of through this massive game really add a uniqueness to the plot and combat alike. If you ever get the chance to pick up Tales Of Destiny anywhere I recommend it completely.
