Getting 12 Nintendo characters in a unique fighting game is definitely a wining idea, despite some bad choices in design

User Rating: 8 | Super Smash Bros. N64
If you would list some of the most famous franchises from Nintendo, you would say Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon and so on. What about getting the main characters from those franchises and putting into a fighting game? Definitely a great idea that turns out to be a lot of fun.

GRAPHICS:
For the N64, the graphics are pretty good, with character like Mario and Link sporting their looks from the 3D interations of their franchises, while some like Samus had to be designed in 3D, and translated quite well. 5/5

SOUND:
The music is a mixed point in the game. While all the stages have characteristic tunes from their franchises, there is almost no variety in the musics, and the voice of the anouncer is a bit annoying. Though, the remixes of classic tune are generally very good. 3.5/5

GAMEPLAY:
The game is a fighting game. You pick one of 8 characters (plus 4 unlockables) and fight each other till one is sent out of the screen. The concept of the game is very unique in the sense that you don't have a life bar, but a percentage of damage, and the bigger it gets, the easier it is to be knocked out of the plataform. The multiliplayer is where the game shines, as you can play with up to 3 other friends, and it can get quite chaotic, but nontheless really fun. The single player is the game weakest point. You select one character and battle all the others, but the order of the matches never changes, and it is always the same thing, so it can get really repetitive, specialy since you have to play in single played to unlock the different characters and the bonus stage. It still is fun, just not as much. In addition to you fighting moves, as you do one kind of attack with the A button and other with the B (and they differ by the direction you are holding in the stick), there are also quite a lot of items to be use in the battles, and they make the game even more fun. 4.5/5

OVERALL:
Super Smash Bros is definitely the weakest in the series, but still a very fun game, specially if you have friends to play with, and is one easy recomendation.

The good:
-Fantastic, frenetic multiplayer
-Putting Big N characters to fight is a great concept
-Nice remixes of old tunes
-Interesting take on the fighting genre

The bad:
-Only 12 characters
-Weak single player campaign
