Lacks challenge mode with unlockables, but still fun as anything. New modes are fun, but we've seen it all before.

This is Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. What else is there to say? If you like puzzle games at all, or even if you don't, this game is worth your time. I bought the PC version from a bargain bin years back for only $5, and it was well worth it. Even at double that, the recent reworked release is worth buying. It's missing the unlockables of the old version, like the BGM tests, alternate costumes, and the vocal version of "I Want You to Know (Sakura's Song)," everything's still there somewhere. The alternate costumes are selected by different buttons from the start. The non-vocal version of I Want You To Know is the title theme. The addition of the new game modes and online more than makes up for the loss. The match 3 mode is something that's been done before, blocks go away when three or more colors match up. Switch 4 mode is basically Tetris Attack with a 2x2 swapping cursor instead of 1x2. I can't figure out the differences between arcade and "rebalanced," aside from the fact that arcade actually took me a few continues. I think I liked it better that way...

Online mode is the real bonus of this release. Just to be able to play this awesome game online justifies the purchase. Sure, the revamped graphics are nice and playing it in HD is fun, but it's a lot more fun with human opponents. I'm probably alone when I say this, but I think that the new graphics clash with the game's visual style. It's mainly the gems, as they're now too shiny and good looking. Meh, that's what happens when you stare at the game in low-res for years.
