Sharp controls, interesting levels, and tons of extras make this a platformer worth buying.

User Rating: 9.5 | Super Meat Boy X360
Without a doubt, this game is easily one of the best games you can download this year. With a control scheme similar to that of N+, you control Meat Boy, a slab of meat who is trying to rescue Bandage Girl after she is captured by Dr. Fetus, an evil fetus in a jar. While the plot is secondary, the cut scenes that are few and far between do continue the story, and they are almost all funny and/or hilarious. However, the main draw of this game is the ridiculous number of levels that exist in this game, and how well constructed they are. While the beginning levels simply introduce you to the game's controls and help you get used to them, later levels ramp up the difficulty to extreme levels. You will die. A lot. However, Super Meat Boy avoids the pitfall of becoming too frustrating for three reasons: almost every level is less than 30 seconds long, when you die, you are instantly transported back to the start to try again, and when you finally complete that ridiculous level, there is an amazing feeling of accomplishment. Not to mention that there are also some great boss fights in between all the levels to mix things up.

However, the gameplay alone isn't what makes this game special. The fact that there are SO many extras makes this one of the best games you can buy for your money. There are over 300 levels in Super Meat Boy, and within each level, there are often extras to find, including bandages and warp zones. There are several unlockable characters to play as that make references to other indie game developers, such as Commander Video from Bit.Trip.Video. Beyond the levels in the main story, extra levels such as the Dark World and other hidden levels make playing past the end worth your while. And all of this can be yours for the low, low price of $10!!!

Overall, Super Meat Boy is one of the best games that you can find available for download. While there are a few (very) minor complaints, such as a lack of leaderboard replays and the occasional overly difficult level, Super Meat Boy provides tons of content, hilarious cut scenes, sharp controls, great visuals, awesome level design, and a low price. Super Meat Boy is a great arcade that everyone should at least try, and almost everyone will fall in love with.
