An awful awful awful game...

User Rating: 4 | State of Emergency PS2
State of Emergency is a game that was produced by Rockstar and released the year after Grand Theft Auto III. Because of the enormous popularity and success of GTA III, State of Emergency was hyped as "the next big thing" for the PS2.
Many of the gaming magazines at the time couldn't say enough good things about it. I remember feeling like I had been duped after I got this game and played it for a few hours, and I realized that it was just a turkey wearing an eagles jacket.
From a technical standpoint it broke ground for the PS2 in that it was the first game that was able to display multitudes of characters on screen all at once without slowing the frame rate down.
From a game play viewpoint it was just awful.
It was so boringly repetitive that after only the first couple of missions I wanted to strangle myself being led down the primrose path by pre release gaming hype.
I learned a valuable and age old lesson from this game however, "Caveat Emptor" or "Let the buyer beware."
